First, i've had a spinal cord injury 26yrs ago whih left me with some physical weakness and over time has caused scoliosis and this HUGE bone spur on top of my right foot(which is my weak side") So i had this surgery on Dec 12, 2007 the Dr. removed the bone spur and the arthritis around it, then inserted a plate and 4 screws to fuse the bones together. He also removed both big toenails due to a heriditary nail deformity. That all went fine with the exception of i'm sure normal pain. As i began to walk again i had excruiatng pain in the 2nd to last toe. The Dr. said i had a neuroma or inflammed/pinched nerve, very common. The foot will tend to put weight on the opposite side of the surgery site. Fine. I 've had 2 shots of cortisone for the pain -no relief. He has now given me 1 shot to dissolve the nerve, its been 3 days and i still have NO reflief. I have anti inflammatory pills, Vicodin, Demerol, nothing touches this pain. It seems the plate has given that foot and "arch" that it never had before, and thats where the problem is. These nerve dissolving shots are basically alcohol that is supposed to shrink the nerve, & he said i should have some relief soon. Not so. I think its possible that since i already suffer from nerve damage from the spinal cord injury that-that maybe hindering my post-op treatment. Mentally this whole thing has taken a toll. I worked very hard to get out of a wheelchair then i had to spend 5 wks in one and now i'm still hobbling around with a walker -its VERY frustrating to me to not be further along than i am. I just wanted to know if anyone else have had this nerve problem and what worked for them??? thanks!

My doctor prescribed a compound cream for my neuroma after cortisone shots did nothing. Cream consists of Ketamine 10% and Gabapentin 6%. Applied twice a day. Took about 6 weeks to totally work but I consider that my miracle cream. Pricey at approx $100 per month that insurance will not cover BUT IT WORKS. That was over 2 years ago and it is still gone.
