Folks,
I am writing on behalf of my mother, Marian, who has been struggling with Osteoarthritis, affecting primarily her left hand and fingers since the age of 40. About 5 years ago, the condition also had spread to her neck and back, with a severe increase in pain and also very limited mobility of fingers, and hands, so much so that she is unable to close her left hand.
She now also wears a neck brace whenever she travels and finds it extremely difficult managing everyday activities. She has exhausted all known options available to her in order to find relief, and we are seeking alternatives.
Marian is in her late 50's, 5ft tall, weighed between 95 and 99lbs all her life, except during her three pregnancies. She has been diagnosed with hereditary Osteoarthritis and blood tests confirmed this form of Arthritis only, and do not include other forms such as Osteoporoses. The condition started at the age of 40 with the fingers at the first joint (closest to the nail).
She previously had a single cortisone treatment in the hands/fingers with little success, and is currently on a daily anti-inflammatory prescription (Celebrex). Marian has been very active in sports throughout her life, participating in activities such as basketball, badminton, racket ball and high impact aerobics. As of late, her Arthritis condition limits her exercise to 2 – 3, 5km walks weekly. She eats healthy, and takes daily Calcium and hormone (hysterectomy at age 40) supplements. Additional supplements and treatments include Glusomine, Omega 3, 6 and 9, and Quiti berry juice daily.
Marian has seen several specialist during the recent years, all with pretty much the same recommendations and outcome; The is no cure, anti inflammatory treatment can offer temporary relief, rest as much as possible, sleep well, keep exercising, and go easy on the hands, and that this condition is not a result of her diet.
At this time, symptoms are spreading very aggressively to the right hand, neck and back, and we are seeking any help and advice for preventing or delaying the affects.
Thanks for your time,
Gene.
