I started getting migraines about a year ago. When I get the more severe migraines it will usually start when I wake up in the morning, at first my left eye will hurt, it's kind of like a light throbbing. Between 10-15 minutes it will be full blown, I can't hold down anything, one small sip of water will make me vomit. The throbbing is so bad that I sometimes can't get out a full sentence, all I can do is take the medication the doctor prescribed me for it and sleep on and off for the rest of the day. The only way I can take the medicine is to swallow it without a drink, which is hard for me to do. I also feel the effects of the migraine for a day or two after the migraine is gone. Does anyone else get migraines like this? If so, what helps? I would like to prevent them if at all possible, all the doctor wants to do is give me a prescription and send me on my way. My insurance isn't that great so I am limited on professional care. Thanks in advance.

I went to Chiropractic, lessened my wine (red) and cheese intake (lessened drastically but once a week still enjoy), lessened my coffee intake to one or max. two mug-fulls a day and I drink a lot of water.
I'm not sure which of the combination(s) did it but I haven't had a full-blown migraine in months.
Cheerio
I, too, suffer from migraines (most of my life).
If you have trouble swallowing the meds, maybe you would be a candidate for either the self-injection unit (Imitrex has one that I used to be on) or the nasal meds (I have never tried this). I have found sleep and a dark, quiet room is the best thing to get through one - even with meds.
The best thing you can do is keep a migraine journal - this takes dicipline! You need to write down everything - what your mood was, what you ate and drank, what you smelled, what the lighting was, if you are female, where you are in your cycle, even what the prevalent weather pattern was - all just prior to and at the onset of your symptoms. This can be difficult because the last thing you want to do is write things down when you are feeling ill and I know for me, I tend to get "stupid" and sometimes cannot create a coherent sentence. This will be helpful to your doctor to work out your treatment. This is also helpful to you to know what triggers to avoid (not much you can do about the weather, but, you will know to be extra careful if this is a trigger). For example, I know I cannot drink red wine, eat cheddar cheese or deli meats or any processed foods. I am also sensitive to weather patterns and if I have any other trigger at certain times, I am in for a really bad one.
Unfortunately, there really isn't a "cure" as it seems that everyone is a bit different and there are several differing theories. However, it has been getting a lot of attention over the last several years and it isn't such a taboo thing to call into work for a "headache." Anyone who has had a migraine can empathize. There are several migraine studies all around the world - maybe there is one near you that you can participate in. This may help out with the insurance piece.
Good luck!
You can make your migraine headaches last thing to worry about its. You have to see where is your migraine headaches spread. If in the frontal- ocular area this mean that finger pressure over the artery in places # 1 from both sides 100% will stop all the headaches and the accompanied symtoms. If you have migraine headaches in the back of the head then finger pressure over the artery in places # 3 will also stop all the headaches, you can see the videos in my web site to see how to do the pressure on the artery. after that you can easy do at your home my migraine devices as shown in the video step by step. With this devices your migraine became last thing to worry about its, because you can easy get rid of its.
I too have a headache. i started taking vitamins called migrelief. and i used to have headaches all day but this vitamin help me a lot. good luck!!
Hi, Chelsea, get your vitamin D checked. See my profile for the information you need if it turns out you are vitamin D deficient. Your blood level should be 40-60 ng/ml. I had increasingly throbbing headaches for almost 4 years. That, along with chronic pain, fatigue, muscle cramps, and other symptoms led me to be bedridden 50-80% of my day. I was also magnesium deficient. My blood level was fine, but I was getting very little from my diet, and I increased my intake by taking a 400 mg magnesium supplement once in the morning and once at night under a doctor's care. I have not had a headache since taking the magnesium. And, if you saw the vitamin show today (I didn't but heard about it), be careful as the 10 minutes of sun they recommended totally depends on your skin color. People with dark skin need 3x as much time in the sun as light-skinned people, and people with red hair just don't get much vitamin D from the sun (don't know why). For a light-skinned person, you need to be in the sun till your skin turns "just pink" without any sunscreen to get useful vitamin D synthesis. Also, milk was tested and it was found that most milk has far less D than advertised, and some product have none.
Check out my profile, and get your vitamin D tested. It's an easy blood test.

My daughter suffers from bad migraines everyday. On October 30th there was a doctor from Philly that explained all about Levadex. Could anyone tell me his name. I would really be interested in bringing her to him.
