Numbness in legs

HI Everyone.

I am undergoing tests for loss of sensory nerve response in my legs. They are checking for lyme disease ,heavy metals and diabetes among other things. They say I need a full neurological workup. Can anone tell me what all that entails?

Thanks,Carol

A lot of it can be done through blood tests. Lyme, heavy metals diabetes all are done through blood tests. Neurology work-ups usually include physical exam, CT or MRI, EMG (electro-mylogram) which tests nerve conduction in the legs or a nerve conduction test which is similar but usually more specific to the nerve truck. They will probably also suggest a MRI with contract which means they give you an injection of a dye which would settle in the spine to check for back problems which may be affecting the legs. I went through all of it about 10 years ago. We discovered that the problem wasn't in my legs but was a pinched nerve trunk in the back. Best of luck,

Thank those of you who replied. All my blood work came back negative so I see the neurologist on Weds. Cindbird thank you. I had the nerve condution test and EMG they showed a problem. I am hoping its something they can correct.

Thanks again.

I can tell you that you need to send your blood to a private lab off insurance to get the right results if your first results from insurance come back negative... The lab is in California called Igenex and if you call them they will send you the kit and you take it to your doctor have the blood drawn and have your doctor send it in.. I had my blood tested 8 times over 17 years and it came back negative .. I sent it to Igenex and it came back positive.. I thnk you just need the IGG and IGM from that lab which is 200 dollars.. Its the best 200 i ever spent..
