This is a picture of my oldest grandson Austin, who loves me no matter how I look, and was with me, in the pool, while I was in my Scuba suit teaching him to swim and hold his breath under water around five years old. He was also immuno-compromised at birth,he had to be immediately tubed, and put immediately on life support, never being allowed to take in a breath of air when he was born on his own. No one was able to hold him from the time of his arrival. a team of specialists were waiting by with all his equipment for critical care. No one could hold him or touch him, except in critical care where he laid very still very drugged to keep him from moving. Not even his mom or dad could hold or touch him, until after he was off of life support after a successful surgery. He was a fighter too! He was put on life support , due to a herniated diaphram. He was on life support for a month, with only one and one quarter lungs,with his intestines displaced and his heart.. he almost died, But, after a month, his feet were turning purple, and they chanced immediate sugery. He lived, and was always in and out of the hospital for years, now 10, he is doing pretty well. It was me, grandma, who taught him to hold his breath under water at the pool, everyday that we could, and swam with him over and over in 2005, Later that year, the doctor said , it was good, that he kept trying to hold his breath under water, because it expanded his one quarter lung and he could breath better without getting respiratory illness constantly. He never got sick at all that summer, his breathing was better, and he is such a blessing!! So, this is how close we are and were, I took care of him alot, while his parents worked...Sadly, I have not gotten to see him much due to my illness and he lives an hour away, but, soon we will see each other, I really believe I am getting better...
