The Lose Your Belly Diet for the New Year

If you are looking to lose some extra pounds following the holidays, look no further than The Doctors' Dr. Travis Stork’s new book, “The Lose Your Belly Diet: Change Your Gut, Change Your Life,” to help keep you healthy in the new year.

The ER physician stresses that a key to maintaining your health and an ideal weight is eating enough of the right foods and feeding our ever important gut bacteria, which plays a huge role in how one feels and weighs. He says the main goal is to educate how to replace bad gut bacteria with beneficial gut bacteria.

“We’re now learning if you do that, you will lose weight. You will lose your belly. You will feel better,” he says. In addition to weight loss, Dr. Stork says people on the new diet have more regular bowel movements and find they have more energy.

The Doctors welcome two guests, Dena and Amy, who have been living by The Lose Your Belly Diet, to share their success.

Dena, who lost 15 pounds and 4 inches from her waist, says, “I have gained a bunch of energy. I lost my belly, which was my major problem area. I’d always been fit and thin up until I had my kids and then I had that belly, which would not go away no matter what diet I did. It just never balanced properly.” She explains that with this diet she’s been able to enjoy dairy and whole grains, which many diets do not allow and still lose her belly. She notes that she never felt hungry while on the diet and looks forward to eating the foods and recipes in Dr. Stork’s book.

Amy, who was looking to reshape her physique and improve her digestion, is down 2 pant sizes since starting the diet and is going to the bathroom on a more regular basis. She explains that she was already eating many similar foods that the diet incorporates, but her key to success was adding in many probiotic-rich foods like yogurt. “What I love about the diet is that it’s not really a diet. You’re incorporating all the food groups,” she says, noting that some types of dark chocolate and red wine (in moderation) are allowed.

Looking past the number on the scale is important according to Dr. Stork, who says we should also be aware of our bloating and addressing it can be transformative to your health.
