Michele first joined The Doctors in March 2015 to recount the harrowing details of the violent assault she suffered at the hands of her ex-boyfriend, during which her nose was bitten off.
“He was my knight in shining armor until the day he scarred me for life,” she said at the time.
The Doctors sent Michele to plastic surgeons Andrew Ordon and Ritu Chopra for a consultation, and the surgeons determined that though it would take several complicated surgeries, they believed they could reconstruct Michele’s nose for her. They then offered to perform the procedures for her free of charge.
Watch as Michele undergoes a stunning transformation at the skilled hands of Drs. Ordon and Chopra:
Onstage, Dr. Ordon explains the complexity of the surgeries. He and Dr. Chopra had to reconstruct all of the functional requirements for Michele’s nose, including sinus tissue, as well as the aesthetic aspects, such as the tip.
Approximately one in four women will experience domestic violence during her lifetime, and abuse isn’t always physical. The emotional and even financial repercussions of intimate partner abuse can be felt for years after the relationship ends. In Michele’s case, the financial toll on her life has been dramatic.
To help Michele get back on her feet, Meg and her team from Evolve MKD surprise her with a check for $20,000.
“This is life-changing,” Michele says, stunned.
