The Awkward Years
According to the International Journal of Social Media and Interactive Learning Environments, nearly half of all youths ages 13 to 17 have been bullied online. In fact, 85% of kids have witnessed cyber-bullying in some form. Sadly, bullying can have lasting effects on victims, leading to self-esteem issues, eating disorders, depression and even suicide.

Merilee Allred, creator of the Awkward Years Project, joins the show to share how she turned her own experience of being bullied as a teen into a movement to empower kids to embrace their differences and love who they are.

"If teens, particularly young girls, can see you then and see you now, and see the transformation, then when they're going through their awkward phase, it just doesn't feel as bad," Dr. Rachael says.

Merilee explains the Awkward Years Project and shares her goal for teens struggling with feeling "awkward."

Natural Cures for
Your Awkward Ailments

From a simple tip to curb burping, to a quick fix for bad breath, The Doctors offer natural remedies for your most embarrassing body problems.

New Laser Treatment for Tattoo Removal
One in five Americans has a tattoo, but they’re not all great works of body art. Cosmetic surgeon Dr. Alex Kaplan joins The Doctors to demonstrate how a new type of laser treatment, PicoSure, can help you erase your unsightly tattoo in half the time of traditional removal treatments.

PicoSure is the world’s first picosecond aesthetic laser. It compresses the energy into 100 times shorter a duration than other lasers, delivering more energy in a shorter period of time. While traditional tattoo lasers use heat to dissolve the ink, the PicoSure uses pressure-wave technology to shatter ink. As every tattoo is different, however, the number of treatments necessary to remove a tattoo will vary.

Dr. Kaplan uses the laser to remove a patient’s awkward tattoo of her ex from her arm. See the results after just one treatment!

Nervous Diarrhea
Your mind and your body have a strong connection, which can sometimes work against you, with explosive results. Dr. Travis explains that when you’re anxious, your adrenal glands prompt the “fight or flight” response in your nervous system. That surge of norepinephrine from the adrenal glands affects different systems in the body, including the digestive tract, which can lead to upset stomach, nausea and diarrhea, because the brain is telling the stomach to stop what it's doing so the body can focus its energy on the stressor at hand.

Likewise, your stomach can have an effect on your mood, as a new study from UCLA recently proved. According to researchers, when the lining of your colon becomes infected, you’re more likely to develop depression and anxiety!

"When digestion starts, your gut releases serotonin. In fact, 95 percent of your serotonin, which is a feel-good chemical, is released in your gut," Dr. Travis explains. So, if you begin to suffer from a digestive problem, the release of serotonin can get disrupted, which can have an impact on your emotional state.
