Joy Bauer, top diet and nutrition expert on The Today Show and author of The Joy Fit Club, joins The Doctors to discuss how the calorie counts on certain “health foods” may actually be causing you to gain weight.

“I call [these] sneaky foods because they are loaded with healthy ingredients – vitamins, minerals, antioxidants – but they’re also packed with calories,” Joy says. “So, you have to either moderate the amounts that you’re eating or come up with slim-style solutions so you can enjoy them in more clever ways.” Joy explains five ways to make simple ingredient swaps and cut the calories.

Weight-Loss Journey
Leslie, 40, first appeared on The Doctors in October of 2011 after being referred by The Dr. Phil Show . At the time, Leslie was tipping the scales at 360 pounds. She made a commitment to improving her health and created a video blog to document the trials and tribulations of her weight-loss journey. Seven months later, Leslie joins The Doctors again to show the remarkable progress she’s made.

Leslie explains how she lost 100 pounds with a healthy diet, exercise and the assistance of her physical therapist, Dee Cochran.

Leslie explains how Freshology gourmet meals provided her with nutritionally-balanced foods to help regulate her portions and curb her cravings.

“The support system is key,” Leslie says. “You’ve got to have somebody in your corner cheering you on [and] telling you [that] you can do it – because you can do it. If I can do it, anybody can do it.

“If you just keep with it, it does change your mindset,” she says. “I still have weight to lose, but there are people out there who are in the same prison that I was in and I want to help them break free and get out of it.”

“People with pre-diabetes may be able to take steps to avoid getting type 2 diabetes, and losing even a few pounds can help,” Usheema explains. “Pre-diabetes and diabetes can be diagnosed with a simple blood test by your healthcare provider,” she adds.
