First-Aid Fruit
In Africa, papaya has long been used to heal wounds and burns by applying it to the skin. The fruit contains the proteolytic enzyme papain, which has antibacterial properties. The enzyme helps cleanse wounds by breaking down proteins, eliminating dead skin and tissue, preventing infection and promoting healing. Papaya is a major component in burn dressings used in the pediatric unit of the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital in Banjul, The Gambia.

If you are pregnant make sure to see a doctor before applying papaya to your body.
