I've been having stomach problems lately and so I had an EGD and the Dr. found that I have a hernia located below my stomach. I was told that it is caused by a shift in the position of organs. Can some body explain what is a HERNIA!

I have a hernia on my belly button. I had surgery. Find a really good doctor. It is a painful surgery tho. I have a lot of surgeries and that one was the worst. My stomach still isn't flat. I don't think mine was done right. So find a gooooooooddddd doctor.
My son was about a year old when he had an inguinal hernia. Basically, there is a hole in the stomach lining and the intestines come through the stomach wall. It caused pain and vomiting. It was also bulging. He had to have surgery to shore up the walls of the stomach lining. Knock wood, he has been fine for 16 years. I was diagnosed with a hernia last year. The doctor said come back in a few months. i haven't been back. I am off ffrom work for the summer so I will go then. Find out what kind of hernia you have and go online to research it if you can. Or, read books at the library. Good luck. Bobbie
I also have a Hernia below my belly button, and can feel it and hear it..I know I need surgery, but waiting on other things that are wrong with me to be fixed.I was told they can do it with minimal invasive surgery. If I were you and needed to have it done, I would schedule it right away.
Thanks to all who have posted comments, it has been of great help.
My GI doctor said that my highetal (how ever you spell it) hernia is too small to operate, so I guess I just got to live with the stomach problems it is causing me.
The GI ordered me to get an ultrasound of my kidneys, galbladder, liver and spleen. It turns out I also have an issue with my liver. So I need to get blood work done.
On top of that, the GI wants me to get a gastric emptying in which I must not have anything to eat or drink past midnight. The procedure takes 2 hour 1/2 and I must eat a boiled egg so they monitor my digestive system. I have never had this done before!
Anappleaday hang in there, most of the procedure they do before surgery are usually with little discomfort..and good luck
