We have recently relocated to the United States from Canada. My daughter Anvita who's turned 4 in August is a bright, sociable kid who loves schooling more than you can imagine.Anyway after repeated googling/searching and phone messages I was told that the admission/registration process is over by Jan to March? But how can I see foresee my husband's transfer (given the current unstable economy) and prepare in advance for her schooling needs for the Fall term and register so early? Was informed that she would be waitlisted everywhere but with no guarantee of admission.
Anyway after all that scouting, anxious waiting and praying, she got a place in a play school near our place.I informed my daughter about her admission who woke up excited every day of last week asking if it was Monday and if she could go to school that day;-)
The d day was yesterday and took her to school. She was all excited and went straight for the array of new toys she saw in her class. As for me ,I was given a big file to fill in the life story of my wonderful daughter.I spoke to her class teacher who seemed like an intelligent and caring lady who knows what she's doing and what to expect of these little kids. She was talking to all the new kids and making them as comfortable they can be in the new place. The head seemed a bit snotty and my daughter was about to leave she could not resist but attempt climibing the gate of her play area only to be chided strongly by the head.
I wish teachers and most particularly "Head of the school" were more sympathetic and deal with little kids on their first day in a more affectionate manner. Why do always expect these little ones to behave like adults knowing to do the right thing(and do we actually know???)
Anvita refused to say goodbye which was her way of retorting to the unwelcome attitude of the head.
Anyway Im sure given my daughters skills, her sociable nature she's going to enjoy schoooling no matter what.

You can walk into ANY BOARD OF EDUCATION BUILDING regardless of what STATE you are from and with water bill or other documents that you live at your new address ask where to REGRISTAR your child.
The most important documents also is your kids immunization records and birth certificate and if your husband is now employed in the STATES his paycheck/stub
I lived in Montreal so I know how you feel.

I have worked in a daycare for 7 yrs. My questions is why is there a gate in the play area? I'm not sure where you are but in ohio we only use gates at our daycare for 2 yrs and younger so the kids can explore all area of our classrooms. I am sorry your daughter had a bad experience. Good luck to you.
Hey Labelfree and LisaBryant
thanks for your comments.
@labelfree:Yes I had sorted out the immunisations before I even approached the schools. That was another big exercise but yes in the end sorted out all the lead testing, vaccinations up to date, squeezing out a Doctor's appointment.
@lisabryant:We live in Quincy,/boston.this gate is essential cos this is in the open playground which is by the roadside.
Anyway Im glad to say that my daughter is settling down well, heard some good feedback from her class teacher and her principal's demeanour has changed for the better.Thank god her mood swings was temporary;-)))
