Abdominal Pain

For the past 2 weeks I have had a pain in my lower right abdomen and over the past few days it has gotten worse an moved to my back, I have also had some nausea and a loss in appetite. Sometimes the pain is barely there and other times the pain can be debilitating. My family doctor thought it the pain was caused from a ovarian cyst or a problem with my kidneys so she sent me for a ultrasound, and a urine test which ended up showing nothing. As the pain began to get worse I went back to her office and she was concerned that it may be my appendix so she sent me to the hospital to have a CT scan. I spent 5 1/2 hours that day in the hospital, had 4 doctors look at me, went for the CT scan and had my blood tested. Everything came back normal, they said that it did not look like my appendix and that there was some fluid in my abdomen that they could not explain. They then sent me home and said to go see my family doctor in a few days or to come back if the pain got worse, also to take advil to help with the pain which has not been working for me. 2 days later I went to see my doctor who was not there so I had another doctor look at me and she said that she had no clue what could be causing the pain. Then 2 days later I was back in the hospital because the pain had gotten worse, I had more blood taken, a urine test, and a pelvic exam to rule out infection and still they could not find anything. That day I spent 6 hour in the hospital and for 2 of the hours I waited for the doctor to perform the pelvic exam but he had forgotten about me so a nurse had to remind him. Of course all of the tests showed nothing. The doctor said that the pain could be from a ruptured cyst which would explain the fluid and that if that was the case my body would re absorb the fluid over time, and that the pain could last for a couple of months, and to keep taking the advil to help with the pain. He also said that it could be this other thing but the only way to check would be to perform exploratory surgery which he did not want to put me through. So in total I have see 8 doctors, 11 nurses, 1 radiologist, had a CT scan, ultrasound, 2 urine test, and 2 blood test in the past week and they are still not 100% sure what is causing my pain. If it is a ruptured cyst how can that small amount of fluid cause all of this pain and is there anything I can do to prevent another one from occuring?

Thanks. I am going to see my family doctor again this week.

You are not alone.  I have been dealing with a similar problem and the doctors still haven’t figured it out.  One suggestion I have been given is to keep a food/pain diary to see if there is a connection.  Good luck I hope they figure it out.

Thanks everyone. They will not do an MRI because I have already had the CT scan and ultrasound and they do not want to expose my body to anymore radiation at such a young age.

I'm sorry they haven't been able to figure anything out i know how frustrating that is! i work in xray,.. have they checked your liver or gallbladder and when they did the ct scan did they use contrast? and if so did they use both oral and iv? and what exact ct did they do? abdomen and pelvis or... hopefully something will come up soon!

Yes they did use the contrast, both the oral and the IV. I was a ambominal CT scan and the only thing they could come up with was a possible ruptured cyst.
