Absolutely right about chemicals!  During years working in alternative medicine, and in regular medicine, some things became pretty clear cause and effect.  The VA Hosp I worked in, bent on grabbing research grant money, ended up contaminating the building.  On paper, the reason half the building was raised, was "Seizmic instability"; but the UNofficial, under-the-table reasons for destroying the building included massive air duct contamination resulting in most patients and staff developing what the clinic called "extrinsic asthma", and, radiation contamination of unspecified types and amounts--the other half of the building was left standing and is still in use--there were no air duct contaminations nor radiation implant sources used there.

We contacted the FDA regarding formaldehyde [years ago] re: carpets-that took over 10 years to outgas enough for many chemically sensitive persons to be around.  FDA rep said "If no one complains, there is no problem"; and, in a following letter, he stated that his office only counted "one" formal complaint for every one thousand carpet fume complaint letters people actually sent.  Get a clue why it might take so long before any action is taken to stop a health hazard?  The FDA is also influenced by big money lobbyists from chemical corporations/industries.  Safety laws/rules are written to protect companies, not people-that is relevant to why OSHA was gutted long ago.
