I saw my son last May and thought his fingers looked funny. He is 26 years old.  He has smoked since he was 14 or 15 and had Kawasaki’s disease when he was 1 year old.  I just finally found some pictures on google that look like my son’s fingers, it is called clubbed fingers.

I am scared. I need to have him see a doctor asap but he has no health insurance and also lives in Santa Barbara.  I live in San Jose.  I am not sure where to tell him to go.  I don’t know if this is what he has or I am just over reacting.  Please advice if it is clubbing there are like 65 underlining disease it could be.  Please help me help my son.

Ok this has nothing to do with either of the blogs that are showing possibly none of the blogs you have written but I really need the advice of a pediatrician. My child's father was unfaithful to me and gave both her and me herpes. How do I tell her when she's old enough to understand (which won't be for a while considering the fact she is only 3 months old right now)? Also how do I help her have a normal life? Since the virus is in her blood can she spread it sexually?

Dr. Sears,

my daughter is 9 years old and i'm a little concerned about her weight. Are the crystal light drinks ok for her? She is about 90 pounds right now.

Thank you

Hi Dr Sears, this blog stuff is all new to me...I have three grown kids of my own and a granddaughter who just turned one, she was taken into ER by ambulance they said she was having a febrile seizure due from her DPT immunication shot and that one out of every three have these seizures. I have never heard of this before, when my kids were young all they have were fever and fussiness. I value your opinion on this.

Hi Dr. Jim,

UPDATE: Apparently I owe my doctor an apology, I found out recently from a chief of staff at a local hospital that looked after my son who went in for a sudden asthma attack his first one. I found out that the airway flap infection I had mentioned in an earlier posting is extrememly rare that in all his years of practice, ( he was in his 50's I am guessing), he had never seen a case. That explains why I have never received any replies to my posting. My fears have been put to rest he assured me that it should not reoccur. On a similar note I saw the show the other day about all of you going to doctor's yourself. The symptoms and diagnosis that Travis had were very similar to my own. I never had asthma before not even in childhood, no one that I know of in my family had it, apparently it can skip a generation or two, I didn't know that. One of my triggers is cold air, going out to shovel snow I have to be careful. It affected my children as well, two of my children are beginning to show signs of it, when they never had before. There is more to say but I know there is a 2000 character limit, smiles. Take care and thanks for listening, I wanted to say your show makes a difference...smiles.

Dr Sears,

I have heard you over and over say that Pediatrics is only untill age 18, my question is, isn't the age of which patients are seen as pediatric up to the physican they are seeing? I am 19 and still seeing a pediatrician, pediatric cardiologist pulmonologist and opthomologist. I will see all of these doctors for the rest of my life.  Are you talking about a general age? I am just wondering... Thanks for your input and time.

Hello Dr Sears,

My son is 13 and my daughter is 12 and both of them was diagnosed to have Global Mentally Delayed and four months ago we found out they have  ADD. I wanted to be able to comprehend their challenges; so I would be able to advocate/ help my kid's in any way I can. Recently, I am attending a workshop for FASD. I found out that this different challenges are inter-related? I am astonish to learned that it does include ADD.What is mind buggling is that I don't drink during my pregnancy.  According to the book I am reading FASD in not genetic? The children's pediatrician once prescribed biphentin for my son and strattera for my doctor. None of the meds work , it made it worse instead.

Can you please share your insight on this matter. Thank you.

Regard's to you and your family. God Bless !

Sincerely,

Adela & family
