I would love to see this topic addressed on the show. I’ll step up and be the first to say “I don’t like doctors,” which is untrue of course, because I have friends who are physicians. So perhaps the better thing to say would be that I hate doctors when it involves something medical and…well…me. Ever since I was little I can remember recoiling at the thought of having to visit the doctor. I’ve never experience anything inappropriate and I’ve never been through anything exceptionally painful—no surgeries, broken bones, stitches, etc. I did tear my bicep lifting weights once, but other than that I have to consider myself fortunate to have never suffered any terrible medical emergencies. But still, I avoid making doctor’s appointments at all costs. This is all ironic considering I majored in nursing for three years before changing to another field. And I’m all about empowering people when it comes to their health, and knowing every detail I can about my own, but I think my interest is more scientific and stems from my desire for an all around healthy body and appearance. When I was younger I think my fear of doctors stemmed from fear of any painful procedure. I had asthma, and for some reason had my blood taken a lot. But mostly because of my breathing difficulties I was in and out of the pediatrician’s office quite frequently. But now it’s just a fear of embarrassment or something. I do not want anyone touching me for any reason, and though I know it’s irrational, I can’t explain it! Keep your hands off and keep your distance! So how about it folks? Is there anyone else out there with the same feelings?

yes me to and I really hate dentist.veronica
I am not afraid of doctors; but just wish they would spend more time with us. Unfortunately, they put a lot of the answers to tests that are taken to the responsibility of the nurse or office help. I would like to ask questions or have a professional answer. I was told that it is because of the health care system right now and the specialist are not getting paid what they are worth and also because of HMO. I expect professional and quality when I go to see a doctor. It is too bad they do not have more time and maybe their reason is somewhat reasonable
I have asthma but am managing to keep it under control.
I hate going to doctors and have forever. I am 27 and I can remember as a child fighting with my parents about going. I still don't go when I am sick until it is absolutly necessary to the point where I will have a 103 fever etc. I just recently had my first surgery and was scared out of my mind. I am with you on this! I have never had anything inappropriate done I just don't like them!
