I love when The Doctors really get into specifics about the human body. It gives the public a deeper understanding of how their bodies work, rather than a cursory overview of illnesses and treatments. So often when people visit their doctors it is solely because of sickness and disease rather than wellness checks. Physicians are forced to quickly diagnose and treat problems, instead of having the opportunity to educate their patients about preventing illness and other health related issues.
Yesterday they really got into the meat of how puberty affects the body and how the brain triggers puberty. It gave people who haven’t had the benefit of anatomy and physiology courses a glimpse into the intricate design and fragility of their bodies. I think if people truly understood the cause and affect relationships that various body parts have on each other, and understood their inner workings, it would certainly aid in the prevention of unnecessary medical concerns and illnesses.
Perhaps first on the list could be a detailed overview of conception. Anyone who has ever experienced fertility problems or had difficulty getting pregnant could certainly benefit from the knowledge of how truly miraculous conception really is! A small two to three day window of each month necessitates such specific timing in order to achieve pregnancy—the statistics on how many embryos fail to properly implant—the statistics on how many pregnancies end in miscarriage before the person is even aware of the pregnancy, etc.
I have been pleased with the topics they have covered so far. But I love when they explain in detail, the workings of the human body. Education, especially in the aforementioned realm, could go a long way to preventing things like unwanted pregnancy.
