About Me

I love the show!  I am actually a 27 year old who lives with a left/right Traumatic Brain Injury and have come extremely close to making a full recovery.  Most folks can't tell anything is wrong with me other than the fact I have a limp when I walk.  I am a TBI advocate, help at the dance studio I have been dancing at for 17 yrs now (helping the last two yrs), am on the Wellston Emergency Management Team, and so much more!  I am able to control over 90% of my side effects and what I can't control I can accommodate pretty well.

I manage the following sites and do the html on two of them (A TBI's Corner & TBI Raiders Volunteer Service):

TBI Raiders was created in January of 2002 by myself and Ashley Washasuen (I don't remember how to spell her last name) who lives in another state, we discussed how more needed to be done to help students who had sustained a Traumatic Brain Injury or what is also known as a TBI. TBI affects 1.4 Million Americans every year and of those 1.4 million, over 50,000 will die from the disability while another 80,000+ will live with life long disabilities. Oklahoma is the fourth leading state in the nation with the most cases.

In August of 2004 the month after I had returned from Washington DC I decided I wanted to do something more. What I decided to do was turn TBI Raiders, the online club, into a volunteer service. This isn't a non-profit just yet, but it is a very different organization. This is for students in high school and college. This is a chance for students to gain job skills, gain leadership skills, interact with various leaders from around the state, become better managers of their time, and so much more. In May of 2006, I was recognized by the House of Representatives for the work that I do. I went to attend the session because my state representative Danny Morgan presented a resolution before the House that would recognize volunteers who worked to improve the lives of Oklahomans who live with a TBI. It was passed unamiously and after that Rep. Morgan had myself then Dr. Ruth Azerados stand to be recognized.

I had no idea there were any TBI advocates out there. I'm glad to see there is. My husband suffered a TBI this year so I'm searching for more information. I'll check out the websites you mentioned. Thank you.
