Hey all,
This is a good night Email from the vault, I was going to write an origional one on sleep deprivation, but this one cracked me up, so I thought I'd post it here. This Good Night Email was from Jan. 29, 2009.
Hi, I'm not going to bed yet, but I've been trying to get this out by 8 pm for those of you who wimp out early. :0) Sorry I'm late again tonight I was on the phone. :0) You all know how much I can talk. :0)
Anyway, it is time once again for me to say goodnight, and to bestow my sleep tip of the night, and dole out my "Magic Sleepy Dust" So here goes:
Last night I didn't sleep, yes I know the sleep guru not sleeping, what is up with that? Well I'm going to tell you so you all can learn from my mistakes, yes I make mistakes.
Anyway, you should always destress at night in order to get a good night's sleep. Now I know times are tough, and destressing before bed is sometimes virtually impossible, but here are some tips to help you to destress before bed.
1. We've talked before about taking a warm bath before bed. This bath should happen 90 minutes before bed. The warm bath and soak will help you clear your mind and relax, but it's not the hot bath that helps you sleep, it's actually the drop in body temperature that occurs after a hot bath that helps you go to sleep.
2. Don't talk about charged political isssues with your friend at midnight. Or about your outrage over tainted peanutbutter! :0) This will get you all charged up, it releases adreniline just like excercise before bed, which I already told you is a no no. :0)
3. Some people find it helpful to record their worries on a piece of paper or an email in order to get them out of their minds and help them sleep, this is a great idea. I find it's helpful to go a step farther and after you finish writing your worries, write what you are most thankful for. This leaves you feeling satisfied and happy, so you can think about the good not the bad as you fall asleep.
I have also found that posting an angry blog to your friends on the doctors site can leave you feeling pro active and satisfied (whatever works best for you) And of course if you choose to implement one of these suggestions don't forget to follow through with your normal bedtime routine. Of course we all know that we shouldn't be on the computer for at leat 2 hours before bed, the light is a stimulus and will tell your body it's daytime, but you all already knew that, Right?
I hope you all sleep soundly tonight, and go to sleep feeling no stress, just happiness for what you have including your friends here!
Some other good suggestions for a good night sleep, read my posts, they are plenty long enough to make you feel drowsy. Imagine your self at my dinner party in my new HGTV Dream Home. Sitting in the outdoor living area, drinking wine, laughing, enjoying our friendship, etc. (oh and all the good food) :0)
All of you get your 7-8 hours of sleep, sleep well, have sweet dreams, and may you wake refreshed. These are Michele H., RPSGT (Registered Polysomnographic Technologist)'s Orders My "Magic Sleepy Dust" tonight goes to Kathy, aka Horsecrazy!!!!!!!!! She and Barb, aka BloomsBubba are new to the Good Night emails and I welcome them both. I will as every night send a little to the rest of you, and I'll send some to Evan so Lisabeth can get a good night's sleep, and to Linda's husband so Linda can sleep well. Good Night all.
Michele
Tonight Aug. 5 2009 I am sending my "Magic Sleepy Dust" to Heather of course she is still in need of a good night's sleep. I am also sending some to my new friend Miranda, she needs to see some more dreams in her life (all good I hope). Have a great night all, and sweet dreams!

I remember this one and our Dream home, which neither of us won.But it was fun thinking and planning the party.
Keep them coming.
Yvonne
We can still plan the party. The pool boy is mine!
Whoever voted No,must be pretty lucky that they can get a goodnights sleep. Some of us can't and haven't in years and we would like some advice from somebody who can help us.
It might not be your cup of tea for a topic, then just don't read it move on.

Hi
I read your blog on how to get to sleep and the part about not being on the computer for 2 hrs before bed
stuck in my head. I for one get really sleep if Im on the computer for about 45 min before bed. It truely
destresses me I go to sleep faster. Anyone else out there have the same bedtime story?
Drivememad,
It is the light from the computer that stimulates the body and tells you it is daytime that can cause a person with insomnia to not be able to go to sleep. If you are one of the lucky ones who has found a sleep ritual that works for you, then there is no sense trying to fix a problem that isn't broken. However for people who absolutely can not sleep, it is imortant to use lighting, timing, comfort and options to relieve stress before bed in order to get a good night's sleep.
