Hi All,
I think everyone has a pastime or activity that makes the world seem peaceful, puts life in perspective, makes you feel centered. I have had a very dificult few weeks, my husband got fired and his characture was slandered in the name of making a buck, we had no income, the kids were wanting to do things that cost money, and give presents at birthday parties, the world was very topsy turvey. :0) It was hard. My husband is in Grad School and he knew a woman who had horses, she was contemplating giving her horses away as she was unable to work with them like they needed. My husband told her I would love to work with her horses, and a very beautiful thing happened. You see horses are what makes me feel centered, grounded, even when things are bad, when I'm working with horses life is good, all is well with the world and I feel............Happy!
The woman with the horses, we'll call her "M", she said for me to call her. I did and we set up a time for me and my family to go out to her farm. When we got there the kids were thrilled to see cows and pigs, and HORSES!!!! They also have 3 dogs. The horses hadn't been ridden in about 9 months and I got to do some ground work with them, I'll include a photo. She has two horses Quincy a very nice looking 16 hands high Quarter horse, he's magnificent! Then she has a horse that is half Morgan Half Draft horse named Sophie, Sophie is so sweet, great for the kids. We have been out there twice now and just have loved every minute. The girls help me groom the horses, then I work Quincy, we let him graze a bit on the choice grass outside the pasture, then we turn him back into the pasture. Sophie I put the kids on and lead her around the round pen, she seems to enjoy it. Then we let her graze a bit before putting her back in the pasture. They typically get a treat like an apple or some carrots after we work with them. It's great! Just the stress relief I needed, everyone is getting what they want and need. In a bit we will get Quincey back in the work mode and I can ride him, that will be great too. It is also great to have a new friend, I've made several here on the site, and now I have "M" too it is really great, we get a long well, she's kinda like family now. If richness is measured in friends, then watch out Trump! LOL
I thought it would be fun for all of you to write what makes you feel centered, it may help someone else find what centers them.
Michele

Michele,
Thanks for creating this blog. I've been sitting here thinking what centers me. My problem is there isn't just one thing. I would say family first foremost and always. After family, friends those who have been there through thick and thin and are still hanging around. Following family and friends, in no particular order; horses, the scent of them when you bury your face in their coat, the smell of leather when you are riding them; dogs, for their unconditional faithfulness and companionship, especially when they look at you with the "I'm starving" mesmerizing eyes, even though their food dish has been filled but they know you're a sucker for giving that extra treat. (well I'm a sucker, I don't know about any of you); mountains, climb a mountain and take in the view of an adjoining mountain or the valley stretching far below, breathe deeply the clean mountain air (if we could only bottle it). Watching while the weather and temperature changes in a blink of an eye and you have to pull out more gear from your pack; camping, there's nothing like not worrying about wearing make-up, not having to "impress" anyone, just you (whoever your camping with) and nature. Camping goes hand in hand with fire and water.... the crackle of your campfire and knowing when you leave the campsite and you get home, that scent will still be with you....water... just sitting on a bank watching the water flow over rocks maybe throwing in a fishing rod to catch yourself some supper. Okay NOW I really want winter to be over!!!
Anyway that's just a few things that tend to ground me.
Cheers.
Did I mention that the pictures are fantastic..... and as it's 11:40pm and I don't eat after certain hours.... why oh why did you post those fantastic pictures of pies?!? hee hee hee
Nice blog. Thankyou for sharing. You and your husband did more than make a memory that day. Wonderful. Right now I walk down to the creek and listen to it flow. Summer days I am exploring outdoor wilderness everywhere. Very peaceful.
Lisabeth- I'm glad you like the pix, Quincy is an incredible horse, they are both sweethearts, Quincy is kinda onry and has stolen my heart.
SpryLilLady- That's great that you have so many things that center you. I think I would have gone mad during this rough time if it weren't for the opportunity to do what centers me. Prayer helps me too, and my faith, but I believe God gave me this opportunity, I think he knew I needed the time to relax, the ability to do something that makes my children so happy without a cost involved. It brought me joy to see my husband smiling, and relaxing. Oh, and you are so right about the smell, there is nothing like the smell of a horse. "M" has said she has 40 acres and she would like when it get's warmer to have us come and camp at her house too. You are so right about a campfire, and when I wrote this I hadn't thought of how great a campfire is, but you are so right.
Winddancer- You are right we did make more than a memory that day! We are planning on going again on Sunday, I'm working a night shift the night before, but I'm hoping to get a nap and go have some fun with my family and "M" and her husband. You are right about listning to a creek flow, very pretty. This is so much fun to hear all the ways people relax, feel peace, feel centered, or whatever term they choose to pick. :0)
Michele;Good topic,I have been sitting here thinking about it.I think SpryLilLADY and I are cut from the same mold...
My grankids of course keeps me centered, but to sit by a stream and have the peace and serenity of nature is the best way to put things into perspective.Just to listen to the sound of the water flowing downstream is so relaxing and refreshing.

Michelle, Thanks for the update. I changed my profile. When I have free time i love to read. it clears everything out and forces me to concentrate. I am so happy you have had this chance to create such comfort for all of you. You are at work now I believe because it is 11:30, Saturday night. I actually was deep asleep at 3;30 am but at 4:15 i was up using the ladies. Ah, it's such a pleasure getting older. :) Talk to you later. Have fun at the farm. Bobbie
I also feel that riding keeps me centred. Onen of the things I love most about riding is that when I'm at the stable yard, whether for riding or just spending time with my (horse) boys, I never seem to think or worry about my problems/ university stresses/ deadlines etc. They never seem to cross my mind.
And anyone who has galloped a horse along an open stretch of track will agree that there is nothing like it -it uplifts the soul and makes you feel alive!!
Peace begins at the beach watching the sunset, quiet meditation sitting in my car or sitting on the beach. The beautiful sky and sound of waves coming in it is totally sedating.
Another spot I get peace from is sitting outside at night or early Sunday morning before the kids or neighbours arise and just enjoy the quiet moments
