Facebook Fraud

Hi all I just heard about this on the news, and wanted everyone to be able to protect them selves.  A man in Seattle had a facebook page.  He had found old friends from High School, College, and Grad school.  This man also had a daughter on Facebook.  His daughter noticed his status on Facebook had changed.  Someone had hacked into his account and changed the email address on his account, so that all messages were no longer sent to him.  They also changed his password, preventing him from logging in.  The hacker then sent messages to all of hie FB friends telling then he had been in London and was robbed and urgently needed help.  One friend, concerned, wired him $1200, but it went to the hacker, because the man was safe at home.  The news warned to watch out for this type of scam as it has happened to a small percent of FB users.

The news also said you can protect yourself by having adequate security software, and making sure it is up to date.  And don't wire money to friends without making sure it's not a scam.  Face book will be tightening security to try to prevent this in the future, they will be contacting Law Enforcement, they will also be finding ways to update a person more effectively of changes to your account.  Be safe out there in Cyber space, and protect yourself.

Haven't heard of this yet.  Will be on the lookout for something hinky.

Yeah I don't have a Face book account!  But that's so sad to hear.  OH!  Dr. Sears just mentioned in a post of his, he has one!  I hope he knows about this..
Thanks for the info, even though it isn't affecting me.

Thanks For the Info, I too am a facebook user and would hate to have this happen.

The worse this depression/recession becomes, and the more people all over the world are put out of work, the more this type of stuff will happen.  All types of money schemes and fraud.  Be careful out there!
