Medical Advice pls

Hi. First off I love this show and watch it any time I can make time to do so.

I know this was briefly touched on but im asking for so more medical advice.

I'm a 20yr old male that has dealt with annoying and unforgiving acne for 3 almost 4 years.(my sister had it but could mask it will makeup. My 16yr old self pictured on my Drivers license dipicts a happy kid with a clean face....  I  think I only developed it because of a stressful move that I never agreed to and argued tooth and nail. Also dealing with a family affair was not easy as well).

My acne is pretty much gone (sometimes get a pimple here or there). However i am left with the battle scars-acne scars.

It sucks because it makes me look horrible, its really depressing and makes a person have low self-esteem as well as insecurity. I could go on and on about the stuff I do in public to try and hide it.

I have used proactiv since January of this year. I used SkinID since oct. of last year to Jan. No real results. Yes acne went away somewhat. However i would still get it and then treat it and deal with yet another red spot.

If i did the full regiment my skin everyday my skin would dry out so much it hurt to touch. I tried limiting the amout of BP i used(no such luck). I think the use of  Benzoyl Peroxide has caused the irrating and undimming reddness below my eyes, and toward my nose. It looks like sun burn and it peals, but its not- one might even consider it rosacea. I  tried "over moisturizing" to keep skin hydrated. No avail. Proactiv's oil free moisturizer doesnt seem to work. I've tried others. Whatever im doing to my skin its helping but the affects are essential more harmfull as it would seem.

Well since my acne is pretty much gone, or i know how to maintain it from coming back. How do i get rid of the reddness? PLS give me something im so desperate its almost frightening (besides surgery of course).

Its hard to go to college and yet it still feels like high school with all the people judging you on your looks and automatically categorizing you into their set place just because of something that can be fixed, or something only skin deep. Im tired of looking like a freak show. Tired of these expensive products not helping.

Thx for any support/help/advice.

Have you seen a dermatologist for their opinion?

A dermatologist might be able to help, and if not guide you in the right direction of who to see.

Consider getting some acupuncture, as it treats the whole person, not just acne or redness. It's important to be accepting of yourself and know that beauty is not about your shape or face, but really an "inside" job.

thx for the comments. been away for awhil just got back.

beauty isnt everything or my dream and its easy to say such things when ur not im my position. i do not strive for the perfect face no, but i do strive to look like my drivers license pic 4 years ago. Acne free.

I would have to travel 100 miles to the nearest dermatologist but before that i would probably have to get referred first. Also been looking at some acne meds. reading side effects and pro v cons. looks grim but with anything ther are side effects.

acupuncture sounds ok but again i'd have to travel along ways probably 250miles to get that.

be nice if i could get something to reduce the reddness of my face without taking chemo like drugs (accutane) or things that dry my face out.

been looking at green teas for antioxidants. i do drink green tea infrequently but i didnt know its potential for helping lots of things in the body.

again ty for the replies. any suggestions im totaly open to.

I'm sorry that you took offense to my comment. No, I am not in your shoes and don't pretend to be. Question: is your face oily?

no not really. my face doesnt glissen with splendor or oily texture; however repeated exposure do to the proactiv regiment my skin will dry out severely. its a very fine line i guess.if i had to go from 1-10 for oilyness i would probably say a 6. if i do nothing 3 - 4 days later i have a break out. if i go with a straight BID regiment i will regret it. once a day doesnt seem to do much MWF doesnt work if i have an existing break out. .... life sucks.

what my father and sister did at night was to take a kleenex and alcohol and rub there face down. it helped for them but i fear if i did that it would go to far and really make my skin redder and worse.

I would recommend Fullers Earth Cosmetic Clay. I purchased it through Mountain Rose Herbs on their website. I just mix a bit of it with water (filtered water if possible), then smear it on my face. It dries within a few minutes, turning a pale green. I can feel the clay pulling oil and dirt from my face. My 19yr old son used it for a while (he has acne) and I could tell a difference immediately but he doesn't keep up with it. It seems to leave the complexion much smoother and more even color (my son is prone to redness due to acne). This stuff feels great on your face and I don't think it is drying like isopropyl alcohol, salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide, since it is not a chemical. Best of luck to you and keep on looking for something that will work!
