I know all about MRSA, I've had it 14 times, now 15 I guess, in the last 2 years. It is now resistant to all meds except Bactrum and Vancomyacin. It is killing me, I managed to go almost a year without any new abcesses, but they've come back twice in the lasst month. I work at a hospital as a flex employee, they call me when they need extra help, If I keep saying I can't come in due to illness, they can decide just not to call me. It's not really being fired, just not having any work. That's what I meant. They know the seriousness of it and wouldn't ask for me to come in when they know I have it. But no company will keep a person who they can't count on to come in and work when needed.
My daughter, my grand daughter and myself have all had MRSA. SO FAR, none of us has it in us anymore. My daughter and grand daughter got it from "baby daddy" who got it from his two sons who got it from their "escort" mother.
I am not sure if I got it from them BECAUSE I had sugery and the insission became infected. I had to have it cut open to drain several times IN the doctors office. No one had on a mask, although the doc did have on gloves. I'm pretty sure I did not get it at the hospital.
BTW, my husband went in for a procedure at the VA hospital. I asked what their MRSA rate was. OMG, I got the EVIL stare, and a "we do not have MRSA here". Bullhockey!
I have family in the Pleasantville area, South Jersey. I have an Aunt and Uncle, and several cousins. I was raised in a small farming area called English Ceek, in the'60's. On the valium, I was taking 5mg in a.m. 10mg at bedtime. The 1st week I cut 5mg off bedtime, 2nd week I cut 2 1/2 mg in a,m. Then I got into trouble 3 days later. Guess it's going to take a while longer. Kathy
Yes that my irritation, that the news said "we'll tell you about a possible new cure" That's got nothing to do with a "cure" even if that is helpful in finding new treatments, it will be 10 years befor a new drug will be created and 10 more before clinical trials will be done. Someone was studying alligator blood, alligators are not prone to infection, they can have whole limbs removed and even in the murky bacteria filled water they don't get infections, the blood is being studied as a new antibiotic source for MRSA, because it can't grow in alligator blood. But even they said it would take 10-15 years to create a drug and another 10 or so years to get through trials. I realize it's good they are trying, but that will probably be too late for me.
