Thanks DDreams, I've had a similar thing done, where my neurologist injected cortisone into both sides of my butt into the nerve on each side.  It helped like a numbing agent does but the pain was still there.   I was offered the epidural type like you mentioned, but didn't take it because  the cortisone from the first injections in my butt made me so hyper (I'm bipolar so the med dosages had to be changed of some) that I couldn't have it running up my spine affecting everything, including making my mood go crazy, and not knowing what the outcome would be to change med doses around.  Meaning, the amount the cortisone changed things around in my head psychologically wasn't worth getting the shot.  However, I will keep what you said in mind -- because I may need that someday in emergency.  Thanks for the advice!

Melissa.

my husband has this same condition.  the only thing he has found that helps, is a shot or injection between the L4 and L5 disks.  the injections are preformed by a pain specialist and they contain, cortizone and a steroid.

you will need your regular doctor to give you a referal to a PAIN CONSULTANT PERSON, in your area.

Hope this helps!
