Post Comments - Return to the Doctor! - Got nowhere! :(

I waited for years to come up with the answer to that problem:  I had to run into a doctor who actually cared and believed me.  If that hadn't happened, if I hadn't met my wonderful "Dr. O" I'd still be in massive pain, sleeping my life away as I tried to avoid the pain.

#1 - Lose the Quack Doc... Schedule an appointment with a new primary and also

#2  - Get familair with a Gastroenterologist.

#3 - Have these two docs work together to find you the answer.

Run the following tests immediately

Appencitis testing -- there is an enzyme that throws off the answer

Have an MRI/ CT scan done of your abdomen with and without contrast

CBC (Complete blood counts) AND full Vitamin Scan (never hurts to get this along with the reg counts).  Should be done during a normal physical anyway but of course never is.

Have an ultrasound done of your gall bladder and if they can the appendix (although on that area am unsure what it would show for the appendix).

They can remove the appendix and gall bladder if both are an issue via laproscopy.  Very quick painless procedure and you don' t need either.

Let us know what you find out :)

Have them run the following:

Gall Bladder Ultrasound

Enzyme tests for the Appendix -- Also elevation of White blood cells.

MRI/CT on your side with / with out contrast

FULL CBC (complete blood cound)

FULL VITAMIN SCAN

Get a notebook and start journaling your health -- day by day list the symptoms, doc appointments, get full copies of ALL tests and medical records.

Have them run tests on your stool samples (gastro guy can do this)

Get an upper and lower GI (onoscopy/ colonoscopy).

ALSO LOSE the quacks and get a 2nd opinion and get a referral to the Gastroenterologist. << research to get a good one in your area.

Ok, I had a geographical senior moment and am re-posting: Did you ever get a vitamin D test?  I'll bet that's one test your doctor missed, and it's an important one.  It's called a 25(OH)D test.  Oh my gosh, Newfoundland??  You're in one of the highest vitamin D deficiency areas in CANADA.  Get it tested now!!  See info on vitamin D on my profile.

Besides vitamin D, have you had an endoscope to check for an ulcer? Another reader talked about this, and it turned out to be a bleeding ulcer. Ulcers are caused by a bacterial infection and treatable.  It took quite a number of tests and pain before the person's doctor did the endoscopy, so if they haven't done one on you yet, it's probably a good idea to ask your doctor about it.  And, vitamin D fights infections.  Don't forget to get it tested.  Canadians have one of the highest deficiency rates. Anyone north of the latitude of 34 degrees is most at risk.  You are one of the countries at highest risk.

I'd call your doctor right away....IMO it sounds from what you say a bowel obstruction, or something wrong with your intestines.

Melissa.

When it comes to vitamin D, what doctors consider "normal" usually turns out to be "low." Your beautiful country of Canada happens to have one of the leading vitamin D researchers, Dr. Reinhold Vieth at the University of Toronto, and all doctors up there should be getting on board with the following vitamin D levels: the minimal optimal range is 40-60 ng/ml (for Canada, this is 100-150 nmol/L).  But unless your level is 50 ng/ml (125 nmol/L) and above, you will have no reserves for your body to rely on, so researchers believe that the optimal range really should be 50-80 ng/ml.  And, researchers have stated that a level of 80 ng/ml (200 nmol/L) is everyone should strive for (men and women) to virtually eradicate the risk of breast cancer. In case you are concerned about toxicity, toxicity starts at 150-200 ng/ml (375-500 nmol/L). My advice is to check your level again, and follow your vitamin D leader, Dr. Vieth. I would email him if you have questions. Maybe he could put you in contact with a good doctor who understands vitamin D. Hope you get better soon. p.s. my mom is from a small town outside of Saskatoon. I spent a summer there on the farm. Beautiful, incredible, but good heavens the mosquitoes were as big as airplanes. If vitamin D deficiency doesn't get you, the mosquitoes will. :-)
