Post Comments - My back

Thank you for that input.  I will for sure keep that in mind if it gets worse.  My doctor sent me to a physical therapist awhileago, and the therapist said that my back is working like a hindge right now.  We have like 3 muscle or something, and theres only one that is working the haardest and getting all the strain.  So he gave me some stretches and it still hasnt worked.  My doctor did give me some muscle relaxers.  But I also don't want to become dependant on pills for the rest of my life.

In grade 8 my doctor diagnosed me with tendonitis in both my wrists.  he said if it gets bad enough wear a wrist brace.  My wrists hurts so much it goes up my whole arm and also into my hands.  Should I wear a brace all the time, or try some exercises for it.  I can feel my bones rub and my muscles rub.

I also suffer from chronic back pain and it is one heck of a battle. I finally recently had to begin taking narcotic pain medication due to the severity of the pain (this should really be the last resort treatment) . I would suggest that you ask you doctor about trying a muscle relaxant to see if it is a problem with muscle tension. If the muscle relaxants help, then you may have chronic muscle spasms. Personally I see both a massage therapist and a chiropractor every two weeks. Getting a good massage really helps relax the muscles and allows the chiropractor to be able to re-align your spine.  I also wear a back brace, however physician usually don't recommend using a brace because it weakens the muscles and will actually cause more pain later in life (I decided that I would rather be in less pain now, and not worry about whay will happen 10 years from now).

You really have to weight the benefits and risks of every treatment.  Acupuncture can also help with back pain, and there are a lot of clinical studies that prove it!  The main thing physcians suggest is to work-out and strengthen your core muscles (abdominal and low back muscles) because the stronger these muscles are, the less pressure is on your spine!  I tried that, but due to a fracture in my low back, I was not able to complete the physcial therapy.  There are also injestions consisting of steroids and local anesthetics that may be done directly into the back muscles, facet-joints, and spinal that can provide a few months of relief.  Back pain is really a constant battle, and may require a multidiciplinary approch using multiple different treatments.

Check how much magnesium you are getting in your diet, and get a blood test for magnesium and vitamin D (it's called a 25(OH)D test).  Among the many things that vitamin D does, it enables the absorption of magnesium (and calcium and phosphorous).  If you don't have enough vitamin D in your body and/or you don't ingest enough magnesium every day, you can have muscle spasms.  I learned about this after being diagnosed with a vitamin D deficiency.  I had always had a lot of trouble with my low back, but as my vitamin D levels rose, my muscles went into incredible spasms, mainly in my low back, backs of my arms, and backs of my thighs.  Once it was found that I was only getting 100 mg of magnesium a day through my diet, my doctor had me take a 400 mg capsule of magnesium per day.  After four days, my muscle cramps were better but not gone.  I had to up it to 400 mg 2x a day and now my muscle cramps are gone as long as I continue to take the vit D and magnesium.  See my profile for info on vitamin D and magnesium.  You want a minimum of 320 mg/day of magnesium per the USDA, and you want a minimum of 40-60 ng/ml of vitamin D per the top US and Canadian vitamin D scientists.  Also, over the four years that I was vitamin D deficient, my low back and my joints kept going out, and it got worse every year and then every month.  It got so bad that I could no longer do stretches on the floor because instead of my muscle stretching, my joints felt like they were coming apart.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

o and its with both my hips

I've tried the chyropractor for awhile....but my back and hips dooesn't seem to stay in place for long.  I sometimes get such bad pains after I go.  I am going to try to go to the chyropractor again and see what he says.  because my doctor doesn't seem to help at all.  Hes giving me all these pills to relax the muscles and take away the pain.  And I don't really want to take pills

Do you have problems with one or both hips?  My niece (actually today) was told that her chronic back problem was from her muscles in her hips being so stretched that it is causing her back to be knocked out of wack.  She went to a Massage Therapist today and has been instructed to get to a chiropractor ASAP.  May want to check it out with a Therapist to see if they have anything to add.

Have you tried a chiropractor?

Melissa.
