I think my comment didn't post, so here's a re-post: Please, Nikki, get your VITAMIN D level checked immediately. See my
profile for more information about vitamin D. I am a bio-engineering
student. I suffered for almost 4 years with increasing pain to the
point of collapse last October. I lost my job because I just couldn't
function anymore (I was a research assistant in the engineering dept at
my university). No-one would believe me that I was really sick. It took
22 doctors to figure out that I had a vitamin D deficiency. I am
finishing up taking classes at a pain clinic, and I can't tell you how
many people there didn't know about this and were dumbfounded when they
checked their levels and were found to be deficient and are finally
getting help after years of chronic pain. Please, get your level
checked, and read my profile as it has important info that will help
you. Good luck.
Fibromyalgia is not an inflammatory disease. That is why anti-inflammatory medication does not work for the condition. It comes and goes. Most often stress induced and is a conditiond that, can not be proven as a disease but can be a cluster of dibiltating symptoms. What medication are you taking? When pain is experienced by the body, it subsides when the problem is taken care of. It is a warning to your body. People with FM have lower pain thresholds or experience pain at a much higher level than normal. The nerves firing off the "warning" are over stimulated. When the stimulus is gone and the body continues to experience the pain, it has out lived it's usefulness. No reason can be found to explain it's continued distress. Depression is often the first to be blamed. But which came first.........the pain or the depression? Sometimes the pain experienced is out of proportion to the amount a normal person would experience, so some doctors think you are exaggerating or worse, faking for drugs. See a Rheumatolgist who specializes in Fibromyalgia if you want to persue that route.
Is your pain everywhere in your body? Or mostly in a particular spot? Do you have depression? Have you been tested for mononucleosis/epstien-bar virus? I had chronic pain while I was in my 20's. I went to numerous doctors until finally I got tested for the above. It turned out that I had a low-grade chronic mono caused by the epstein virus. Any time I would get sick, like the flu, it would present the symptoms of mono. So, the doctor said all I could do is rest and have no stress and eat lots of green vegetables. I also took Lysine along with a multiple vitamin. After 10 years of suffering and not being able to work full-time, it did subside. It's been 27 years now, and I can sometimes feel it coming on, so I back off and rest. Oh, and I forgot the most important part! I was obviously depressed because of the situation and I started taking prozac. I still take it to this day because after trying different anti-depressants and quitting the prozac numerous times, I found that prozac is the only medication that takes away my body aches. I also found that I cannot exercise too much either, or it will start up again. Just walking and yoga is what works for me. I hope this helps.
Post Comments - Chronic Pain without an autoimmune disease with it like Fibromyalgia or Lupus
