I definitely agree there, but I also think there should be more resources available to children who are in abusive homes. While I knew all the ins-and-outs of everything and how it all worked, luckily I didn't do a darn thing until I got engaged. But, I have some friends who came from abusive homes, too. Parents should talk more with their children about it, but I know in my situation, I avoided and was terrified of it, I didn't want to talk about it, because of what had happened to my own parents in their abusive pasts and the terrible history of my family. I wish schools could provide counselours that could answer all those sorts of questions and talk with a kid like that when they simply can't with their own parents, without fear of their parents being notified. I know if someone had been there like that for some of my friends, they'd be in very different places right now.

Tomcat you are so right. I am 51 my daughter 33 and we never had the TALK.. So she received all her info from friends who knew as much as her..NOTHING SMART. In this day and age we need to inform our girls and boys about more than the birds and bees. Yhey need mor info,They don't need to always know all facts the most important facts. As parents it is our job. OHHHH Another JOB LOL to protect them the best we can.

I have to agree. I think I was 8 when my parents talked to me about it, and having that knowledge going into tought situations when I hit middle school made it possible for me to make smart choices. Knowledge never hurt anyone! It's not taking chilodren's innocence away, it's enabling your chiold to make informed decision before they face tough situations without you!
