Post Comments - Zerona Non-Invasive Liposuction

Hi Dr. Ordon-

I lost 12 inches in 2 weeks with Zerona (the record 2 week loss for the clinic at that time). Cosmetic results were dramatic. During the first session I began to have a tingling/vibration sensation. The odd (non-painful) sensation continued and was recurrent during and in between procedures. I was told this was unusual but that it may be due to it working so well for me. It made me feel a little "fluish" and was told this was a common comment from patients. However, I continued additional weeks of treatments over a period of time because the cosmetic results were so amazing. I was forced to discontinue treatments because I became too ill with flu-like symptoms and low grade fevers. The recurrent tingling/vibration sensations did not stop, nor did the flu-like symptoms. During the weeks of Zerona treatments I began to experience extreme abdominal swelling which I did not correlate with Zerona at that time. Over a period of 13 months I have been examined by 16 specialists (including the Mayo Clinic), had multiple tests as well as complete open abdomen exploritory surgery to determine the cause of the extreme swelling (which now also effects my hips and thighs). It has been determined that the swelling is lymphedema caused by damage to my lymphatic system, likely from being overwhelmed during the Zerona fat loss procedures. I can no longer stand or sit for prolonged periods (more than 1 hour) without extreme lymphatic swelling. I did not have a condition contraindicated for Zerona treatments. Those with the best results may be at the highest risk. I believe the FDA needs to look into labeling changes for the Zerona device. Both clinics I visited followed the approved protocol.

The explanation of how this works (and I don't believe it does!) IS PSEUDO-SCIENTIFICand just doesn't hold water. Quote: The laser biochemically creates a "hole" in the cell wall of the lipocyte (fat cell), and the cell contents are spilled out into the space between the cells, where lymph resides. And just like with lymph, it is absorbed, and the waste is excreted from the body.

Really? I'm a qualified doctor and this is one of the craziest explanations I've ever heard! If this device is releasing fat from cells, where does the fat go? I can't see any way it could be excreted either through the bowel, kidneys or sweat glands. If it entered the lymph it would then pass into the blood and still wouldn't be excreted!

No registered physician with any moral sense should be endorsing this. It is simply a money-spinner for the manufacturers and all the various quacks out there who extract money fromn the wallets of the gullible.

Do you have a list of any reputable facilities that perform this procedure in the Baltimore area?

Thanks, Dr. Ordon, I am seriously considering this procedure because I just can't seem to lose what I need to in order to feel confident around my thighs & rear end. I work out A LOT, eat healthy, am 5'3" & around 122 lbs & have an overall low BMI, but these areas have become problematic since I turned 30 about 3 years ago.

Orlando Zerona

It is actually approved by the FDA now. It is really safe and extremely effective. I would recommend it to anyone.

I checked into Zerona Laser in our area because I saw it on the Doctors show and then  heard an advertisement on The Fish radio station....  Extremely expensive $1400- $2800.... Would be nice to try but I have a daughter who is a medical school sophmore! We are trying to help our kids through college because it is so expensive.  Cannot spend monies onn a luxery item like Zerona... Sad...
