Thank you kenat ... I am doing much better these days ( knock on wood!) withthe migraines.  But you have a really good point about having food allergies that might be the cause of the migraines.  Thank you foor the links and bringing it up.

Hi Everyone, my name is Kena. I have had migraines for 17 years. I have tried everything under the sun as far as treatment goes. I have spent the majority of those 17 years with 15+ headache days a month. I currently use treximet as my abortive meds, but I use only 1/2 of the pill to reduce the side effects (feels like I'm raw on the inside and out), hurts really bad. I have found that botox works great for me! Unfortunately it cost $400 after insurance because I have to use 2 vials because of the cost, I can't do this method of treatment. Another thing is I was was my ob/gyn this year and she suggested getting allergy test for food allergies. Apparently they have known for a long time, that there is a link between food allergies and migraines. I don't understand why NO other doctor has ever suggested this to me. So I got allergy tested and guess what!? I am allergic to beef, potatoes, almonds, and oranges. I have since cut those items and things made from those items out of my diet. I don't have nearly as many headaches and the ones I usually have I can take aleve and the pain goes away or take nothing at all and it goes away eventually. When I do get a migraine, I also get droopy eyed on the side that hurts and I have so much pain that it feels like "pressure" and it can be described as numbing, until I move and then I realize that hurts! My suggestion is talk to your doctor about getting allergy tested...or trying botox, it worked best after my second round of it.

If I have a bad migraine, lasting longer than a day, I go to the ER and ask for the "Migraine Cocktail."  I know it is Saline Solution and a Pain Medication of some sort that is given to you through a Fast Drip IV.  For me, when my migraine is bad, this Fast Drip IV Migraine Cocktail will have me back to normal in under one hour.  The nurse once told me people get migraines because their blood stream gets dehydrated.  I don't know how that happens, but I know how to get it fixed now.  Perhaps you could ask about the Migraine Cocktail at your ER.

I have the same thing...when I have a headache my eye on the right side will start to close and my mouth will droop. As the headache get worse so does the drooping and the eye will become completely closed. My Neurologist says what I have is called Chronic Daily Headache Syndrome with Migraines. But he is not sure as to why the drooping and the eye closes. I am on, it seems, a ton of medication but nothing seems to work as of yet.  He continues to try different medications in hope of finding the right combination to give me some relief of the pain that I have every day.  I am not sure if it is because of the amount of family history with Migraines and Seizures has anything to do with it. But I would tell your doctor about it and yes there are others out here that deal with it too, at least I do. If you find anything that stop the drooping, let me know because I know it does look like you have had a stroke.  Sometimes when I go to the store a headache will start and now the drooping and eye closing starts...now people are looking at me because yes, I look like I had a stroke.  Most of the time I don't go anywhere alone either because I have these headaches daily so that someone can drive.  I can only seem to drive short distances because driving for some reason causes me to get headaches. I wear sunglasses all the time too. So, if you do find anything that helps, please let me know. Thanks

This happend once years back in a small community and I went to the hospital, the young doctor on call wasn't sure what to do with me so he called the neurologist he trained under in Vancouver Hospital. He told him he was familiar with it but had only seen it once and explained that the pain level was so high that my brain was causing the numbing out on my right side because it couldn't handle it and that when the levels came down the feeling would start to come back and then the pain would hit fast and furious so he should have a certain dose of some drug ready to inject in an IV right away. As soon as I felt the tingling I buzzed them by the time they got in there with the injection I was curled up in a fetal position crying {would have been screaming but that would have hurt}. I don't know what they gave me but within a short time I was out like a light. They kept me there over night. Now I take the "demon" pill to hasten the numbness part and get it started at home then have to take another one to kill the pain. 2 of those in a day are horrible, don't sleep for about 20 hours, but they work. I hate them. That doesn't happen every time, but just did with this last cycle I had. I am doing better now then before though.

Melissaw, when I get the numbness on my right side, it starts off as tingling then goes numb from the centre of my skull down, then I completely lose the use of that side of my body to the point of having to pick up my right hand with my left hand in order to move it and not being able to stand on my right leg. But there is no drooping of my mouth or eye. But when this is happening to me I have NO pain at all.  This can last anywhere from an hour to a few hours. When I start to feel a tingling sensation in my fingers, toes, face and neck, I know the feeling is starting to return and that the pain will hit like a frieght train within minutes. I have to be prepared for that, either in the hospital or have something on hand to deal with it. It hits fast and the pain is extreme like being slammed into by something moving at a high rate of speed. Then my right eye droops and actually closes to keep out the light.

Anna,

Ditto on the Zomig--I am in hell right now with these side effects.  It makes everything hurt in your body.

Melissa.
