For those with Thyroid issues, but who test "normal" be sure to ask your doctor what your levels are and track them. My specialist told me that there is a wide range for normal.....he says if you go from one end to the other then you'd experience symptoms of hypo/hyperthyroidism.......due to my family history & a large nodule I have, my family doctor and I have tracked mine each year as part of my physical .........so even though you're "normal" it might not be "normal" for you .........not all doctors will look for trends, so you need to ask how your levels compare...better still track them yourself and ask your doctor what the trends mean....
FYI......if you have thyroid issues be sure to have your children tested....... a baseline for them as teens when healthy will help them know what their "normal" is!!!
Good morning DR Ordon, I have been diagnosed with Low thyroid and I am on Synthroid0.125mg 1 tab daily. I am now losing weight with the 17DD however it took me two runs of Cycle one to lose 14.6 lbs. I am so happy. Could my thyroid be why I am not losing weight any faster. It discourages me when the scale does not move and i have been good on this plan? Thanks for you time Have a blessed day. tifa ♥♥♥
My wife had tyroid cancer 20 years ago. It
has been completely removed and she has been cancer free since. The
proble she has now is premature aging in her face. She has a lot of
aging wrinkles. What we are wondering is a face lift the only thing that she
could do to improve her facial appearance? She does take a throid pill once a day. She is a healthy 55 year old
and has been having premature aging for many years. If you do a show on
throid side effects we would be interested in coming on the show.
I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism Oct 2010. When I went to the doctor for a physical, it had been since my 2yr old's sons birth that I had seen a doctor. I went in complaining of depressed feelings, feeling tired alot, and being an overwhelmed stay at home mother. My doctor gave me a card for a counselor and then said when bloodwork comes back will go from there. Well I had also asked to have a thyroid test....long story short my bloodwork came back and I have hypothroidism, low iron, and low vitamin D. I am now on Levothyroxine 50mcg, take 325mg of iron, and 5000ius of vitamin D daily. This battle is still so new and overwhelming, thyroid issues DO run in my family, both my aunts have thyroid problems. I am feeling more myself again but still struggle with depressed feeling. Is there any informative places to find better info on how to concere this throughout life....since my aunts explained ill be on meds FOREVER lol....ANY information is much appreciated!!!!
August 2009 I had MRI on my cervical spine/neck to rule out why my fibromyalgia is so chronic and get better details of arthritis I have; results show I have 2cm + size lump in my left lobe thyroid, bloodwork only shows I am borderline hyperthyroid, 13 months later doctor still isn't putting me on treatment to correct my thyroid, I am only being monitored, what scares me is what if this turns to cancer, why are health professionals in my hometown in Ontario not doing anything about this? I barage my doctor everytime I see him I want this lump dissolved or removed then doc says 'its not cancerous so it doesn't need to be removed', since when did doctors have the power of choice over my health, shouldn't this be my choice for treatment and get better? I have a host of other health issues celiac disease--still have villi damage despite following strict gluten free diet, iron deficiency anaemia, reocurrent candida albicans problem, arthritis, fibromyalgia; I am so tired all the time, I have missed alot of time from work, my facial skin especially around eyes is scaly looking, dry eyes hardly any tearing when I cry, shaky tremors, nervousness and anxious feeling in my body all the time, I wear a size 6 I used to be size 12, my fingers loses a ring size this past year and more thin-skinned in hands already, feet are more boney looking, hair is thinning out and has lost its lustre, I am falling apart; if I had the money to cross into USA for treatment I would do it in a heartbeat; in Ontario healthcare is free paid by Ontario Hospital Insurance Plan unfortunately that free healthcare is taking away my choice of treatment, Ontarians don't have a choice anymore, funding is constantly cut from hospitals/clinics etc.
I never had any symptons & my thyriod cancer was found quite by accident. My guaridan angel was the tech who was doing my scan Nov. 2009. I was there for another issue, but someone was watching over me...... she asked me if I wanted to continue & do a whole body scan, just another 15 minutes. That was the only way I knew about my thyroid cancer. The surgeon had to remove the whole thing a month later.
Living on pills the rest of your life is not the same as having your thyroid, I can attest to that. I had no idea your thyroid regulated so many parts of your body. I miss mine to be honest.
I'm hypothyroid and after being told I had to take a little pill everyday for the rest of my life, that was critical to have a good life, ... I invented the Didit to help me keep track of that very important dose. The Didit was on the show today. It's a little device, simple and inexpensive, that you attach to the pill bottle to track if you took your med or not. If you go to this page, you can see www.thedidit.com . I post this only because sometimes having a thyroid problem can have a silver lining :) ... and the Didit helps me, it might help you too. Good luck!
I do feel as if my thyroid problems cause both depressions and anxiety. I have Graves Diesease and I am on a multitude of medications for everything. Lyrica for body aches, Lexapro for depression, Xanax for anxiety and panic attacks, Depakote as a mood stabilizer, Adderall for my ADD foggy like state of mind, Trazodone to help me sleep, not to mention the Methimazole to lower my thyroid functions. I feel like my symptoms are never ending.....my pocket book rattles when I walk. Most of the time all this medication makes me sick and don't know whether I am coming or going, so I take Zofran for nausea and vomiting. None of my doctors want to take my thyroid out for some reason. I feel hopeless! What should I do or ask of my endocrinologist?
My Daughter has a hypo Thyroid we only found out when she was 11years old. I kept telling our Doctor something was wrong. He said it's baby fat nothing to worry about, she'll grow out of it.. NOT!! She's was 11years and over 150pds I was getting very angry and worried he finally did testing on her to find what I thought to be true its her thyroid. Now she is 17years old and she is 268pounds she is working hard to lose her weight but not having much luck She has gone and is going thru so much. I'm wish there was a loose weight cure for her. She wants to have the Band or the Gastro bypass operation. OHIP doesn't cover the band and I think the bypass is too dangerous. Any help would be wonderful!!
i have a low and high thyroid ; what does that mean. my doctor does not listen to me , my sister went with me and he would not listen to any of our family history. can you please explain to me what it means.
