I am very glad to hear that you have finally gotten the answers you needed to help your baby feel better. After they fixed the problem with him not being able to keep anything down you may want to look into getting the formula I mentioned before. The only thing is, in order for WIC to cover it you must have a prescription. It is made by enfamil and it is called pregestimil. I know that where I live it was very difficult to find at stores so you may have to call ahead and get the store you prefer to order it. The reason I still suggest it is that because he has been throwing up his food for so long he may need a little help gaining the weight he needs and pregestimil is easy on the stomach and helps babies gain weight when they are unable to with other formulas. And I would continue the rice cereal. I know it helped me finally get my baby looking like a healthy little roly poly baby :). Yes she is still only about 10 or 11 pounds at 3 months which is still some what small but this formula and the rice cereal and what ever medicine your doctor has prescribed for acid will help if he has acid reflux/GURD on top of the stomach condition. I am so happy for you. I can't wait until you can get the normal baby experience you deserve because trust me when I say that after you go through difficult things like this you will appreciate him so much. (not saying you don't already) I know that I never realized how much fun a child could be until after I almost lost her. I hope everything goes well for you :). Please let us know how things go. I've had you in my prayers.

Pyloric stenosis is most common in white babies. It affects more males than females — particularly firstborn males. Pyloromyotomy is a procedure done usually right after you have a diagnosis. My friend's baby boy was diagnosed with this, had surgery the same day( thru a small incision at his belly button, and laparascopically) and was home in a day and a half. He was diagnosed at 2 1/2 weeks old, and is 14 mo old now, and doing well. Hopefully your doctors will act as quickly as Karen's did. Btw, for about four hours before the surgery, they gave Tyler intravenous fluids to boost his electrolytes and salts in his system, so he did well during the short surgery.

Thanks For Your Help, I have just returned from another ER visit. I demanded answers and would not leave with out a ultarsound of his belly. The Final Diagnosis was Pyloric Stenosis, he has to be closely watched with many follow ups and a Possible GI and Surgery.

This has nothing to do with being first time mother, I am not nerves and I am not scared. I am angry with his doctors for letting this go for so long and not try to help in anyway. Yes this is the first infant that I have giving birth to but it is not the first infant that I have raised. You tell me not to give him cereal, well then how in the hell do you expectme to get him to gain weight? Cereal is the only thing that he is keeping down, if I stop giving him cereal because of how old he is then he will starve. He is not Colicy, I have raised a colicly baby and he is not one. He is only upset and crying when he is hungry, and right before and during throwing up. After all the he is very very happy laugh and giggling. It hurts him to throw it all up whichmakes him cry, he can not keep food down so he is hungry which makes him cry. Colic babies cry for no reason, they just can not find the comfort that they are looking for. And like I had stayed in the description, I know that I am not supposta give him anything but milk, but it is the only thing that comes close to staying down.

Yes, I am on the WIC program I will have to check in to that because they told me they only cover goodstart which I have already tried him on. He is not getting any of the milk down, it is coming right back right when I stop Feeding him.... It is almost like as long as he keeps sucking, he can keep it down but as soon as he is not sucking anymore then it all come back up.

I dont bounce him on my knee or anything, I have tried letting him sit in the same spot that he ate in and burping him there but still no help. I tried slowly moving him over my shoulder and burping him there still no luck, I have tried just slowly sitting him up from where was laying and then bruping but he still throws it up...... I even have tried gas drops before feeding, after feeding, or before burping and yet nothing.

Thank You for all Your Help!

If your child is on medication such as Prevacid for the acid reflux and is still throwing up as you described then you need to go to your doctor and tell him/her that you want tests run to make sure nothing is wrong with his digestive system.  Do not be afraid to make this request.  The doctor works for you and it is better to be safe and rule out any physical problems that may exist.

A child can still gain weight and be sick.  A girl that I met in the hospital had a baby that was throwing up constantly and could not hold food down.  The baby was gaining weight but still had a physical problem that had to be dealt with.  You are the voice for your baby so don't be afraid to speak up.  I wish your baby the best of health.

I know you said you've tried alot of different formulas for your son, but I know that because my daughter was having a similar problem after she was reintroduced to formula instead of nutrients, fats, and proteins from IV's they put her on a formula called pregestimil. A post from someone  before this one mentioned a formula that was about $30 made me think of this. It is about $30 and it's made by the same people that make enfamil. It is pregestimil with lipids. This is what I feed my daughter along with rice cereal. If it is too expensive you should look into seeing if where you live offers a program like WIC. This program has been a life saver for me. The WIC program covers the cost of 8 cans of this formula which comes out to the rediculous amount of about $230 or so. If where you live offers a program like this one you will have to have a prescription from your pediatrician to get that specific type. This specific type of formula is for babies that have problems gaining weight and I think it's easier on their stomachs. Before they switched my daughter to this she couldn't hold anything down at all. She would literally throw up atleast 10cc less than the entire amount she ate. This helped her, I really hope it helps your son if you try it. Good luck.

One extra thing that helped alot was giving her peppermint tea in a bottle-we tried to give her about an ounce of it about 3 times a day(room temperature or slightly warmed) she fought it at first, but by the second day, she was taking it well. My grandmother suggested it but my doctor almost had kittens when I told him what I was doing. I told him it seemed to be working better than anything he had to offer!!LOL! I just put a teabag of pure peppermint tea into about 10 ounces of hot water, let it steep for about an hour...then refrigerated it. Put about an ounce in a bottle just before her morning feeding, and slightly warmed. I did not get around to trying this until she was 6 weeks old, but it seemed to be helping more that not.

My daughter had this same problem when she was an infant, and I was a first time mom and at my wit's end! She ended up sleeping in a snuggly ON me for most of the day, and at nite she slept on her side. Yes, she still projectile vomitted until she was about 12 weeks. I managed to keep breastfeeding her, as the health nurse suggested that anything else at that point might only aggravate the vomitting. It is not the weight of the milk (and btw..you should never introduce solids/cereal to an infant before 4 months) but the fact is you have a colicky baby. Patience at this point is all you can muster up, and just keep topping up the feeding, in short spurts, rather that longer periods of time between feedings. Avoiding the baby getting antsy about when the next feeding helps too. We also did some 'bicycle' movements with her legs to help with the upset tummy which is very painful, but can be aleviated by this movement. Finally, warm compresses on the tummy help too. My daughter loved laying across a warmed towel (that had been warming up in the clothes dryer). All these things seemed to help in little ways but the real healer is time. By the time the baby reaches 12 weeks, things will run alot smoother with less puking and more smiling!
