With being 35 now, and there are no known birthdefects or anything like that in mine or my husbands family would my dr only suggest to have any amniocentesis done?

Dr. Lisa,

I am still young only being 19 but  I still wonder does it even pay to have an amniocentesis done if you know that you have significant risk of passing something on to your child? For example: I was born with an ASD and I have a Connective Tissue Disorder believed to be Osteogenesis Imperfecta. I have been told the ASD has a 1 out 3 chance of being passed on to a child that I might have and the OI or any connective tissue disorder has a 50 percent chance of being passed on. Therefore any child I might have has an 88% chance that they will have a something congenitally wrong with them whether it be the ASD or even another CHD as they are the most common birth defect in America or the connective tissue disorder. In that instance if I were to have kids at that late of an age, would it even pay to have it done? I am not saying I am going to... I am no were near close to making any decisions about that perfering to get through graduate school for physical therapy first but it is something I would like to know.

Thanks for all your information and your kind words! It is great to see you blogging! .
