I totally understand the concern and the "addiction" to the migraine medication.
Who wants to feel those TERRIBLE headaches.
I am not a doctor so please talk to him or her regarding new medications etc....
However there is a medication I was Rx'd called "TOPOMAX" specially for these types of headaches and hit also has OFFLABEL other benefits as well.
It doesnt give you that sleepy narcotic feel and it really does the trick preventing those terrible terrible ice pick in the middle of your forehead pain AND its the new wonder drug for LOOSING WEIGHT TOO!~
Please google it, read up on it and maybe next time you can ask your doctor if it is a good fit for you.
HOW DO I STAY FOCUSED?
It takes a lot of "mental" work. I had to first work all my pain from the inside out, THANKS TO DR PHIL and ALL OF HIS BOOKS. I read every single one of them starting with LIFE STRATAGIES and the SELF MATTERS.
I had to change my internal NEGATIVE self talk to POSITIVE SELF TALK. The more you do the better you get at it.
Addiction comes in all forms. Like I gave up DRUGS AND BOOZE and if I hadnt did other things I would have if I wasnt mindful REPLACE ONE ADDICTION WITH ANOTHER for me picking up GODIVA CHOCALATE...or SCRATCH OFF LOTTERY TICKETS!~
Congrats on your recovery! I have been a user, if you will, of a migraine medication called Fioricet. It has become the center of my life and everything seems to revolve around it. I have tried time and time again to stop, and did at one time for almost a month, but continue to rely on it rather than my higher power, God, to get me through my days.
My biggest fear is that my liver will fail using so much Tylenol which the Fioricet contains.
My question to you, Labelfree, is how do you stay focused? It is hard for me to relax enough to get my mind wrapped around being calm and focusing on getting better.
I have been clean now 17 years. My addiction is/was crystal meth. You should pat yourself on the shoulder several times a day for making the choice to stay clean. There's not a day that goes by that I don't think about using but everyday I also make the choice not to use, so don't forget to give yourself those pats on the shoulder when you make the choice not to use everyday because they are very important. Also, remember to give yourself a treat at least once a month for not relapsing. Good luck and I hope you have a very merry xmas.
How wonderful for you, your should be so very proud of youself for making that tough choice to take control of you life and I know this must be hard for not only you and your frieds and family but I sincerely hope that you will continue to win this battle so that one day you will win the war. Good luck on your recovery and you have friends here who will listen when you need an ear.
Welcome aboard labelfree , Truly you are doing awesome ! I once had a promblem with a substance , and I have been clean since 96, I was a social user with someone I lived with, but once he left and moved out of town , I was on the right path . I now have a promblem with my youngest son who is 21 with and addiction to booze, we all try and help and talk with him , and I even had a intervention here at home.
Welcom to the Doctors, Congratulations...very proud of you! That is what this site is all about. To let your true feelings out and discuss things that are going on in your life. I believe letting things out and talking about it is the best therapy. Yes, you can take many different medications, but still the best thing is support. I also want to say congrats on you losing weight, its the best thing for you, so many things can go wrong with being over weight. I know you can reach your goal of 150...Well, I hope you have a wonderful Christmas.
Welcome labelfree, And congratulations on 10 months clean ad sober what a great accomplishment. And thank you for sharing I know how hard it can be at Holiday times to work a program. Welcome again.
