Diaper Rash On Son!

My son is only 7 in a half months old and we noticed he's got his first Diaper Rash:( He must have pooped in his sleep on Sunday night and when we woke up on monday morning to change him, I noticed  when he pooped in his diaper that his but was extremely red. So i cleaned him up and put Desitin Original on his tushy and I thought he eould be fine. Then comes tuesday morning and I noticed its redder and more sore and it looks like his skin is peeling off. What Do I do? My husband says it looks like it is Bleeding?

Good morning,  My son had this problem when he was a baby too.  My wife and I got Aveeno diaper rash cream.  It has oatmeal in it and seems to help keep moisture in the skin.  You also can give your son an Aveeno oatmeal bath.  It helps with relieving the pain and irritation.  I heard that you can put your child in a towel instead of a diaper for awhile...it allows less irritation from a tight diaper.  I am not a professional,  just a Daddy...I hope this helps you.  If it does seem to be getting worse,  you might want to take him to his Ped. It could be something other than diaper rash.  Best of luck!!

Take care,  Jeff

My daughter had diaper rashes quite a few times where even the prescribed creams never worked; the one trick that simply worked every time was corn starch, I even use it as a preventative methode now instead of baby powder.  It keeps babies bottom dry at all times and its all natural.  My mother in law taught me that trick she used it on all 4 of her kids.  You could even test it: place corn stach in a bowl and add water, you can never get it to turn liquide, and it never feels wet.

Michelle,

I had this problem quite often with my daughter's, one of them had very sensitive skin, she got a small rash I put ointment on it and it got worse, we found out she is allergic to Lanolin, which is in some diaper rash creams, you could check.  It is also possible that it is not a diaper rash, but yeast.  My daughter had a rash that wouldn't go away, I took her to the doctor and it turned out to be yeast.  They gave us a script for a yeast cream for baby's and it cleared right up.  Leaving the diaper off for a while and letting it "air" is also a really good idea, the disposable diapers because they are plastic can cause moisture to not dry, be sure after a bath that she has completely air dried before putting a diaper on her.  Also if you have changed diaper brands lately, that could be the cause, the same daughter who had sensitive skin and the Lanolin allergy, got rashes with certain brands of diapers.  We also had to check the baby wipes for Lanolin.  I'm not a doctor either, I have 3 girls.  Hope it clears up for you!

Hey Michelle

When my son gets diaper rash I use Desitin the purple tube.  I don't know what the name of that I just know it's purple.  I love it.  My sister uses and her son gets diaper rash really bad, so bad that she has to put in the tub to clean his bum.  And the only stuff that works for her is the purple tube.  It's extra thick and it stays on all night or all day!  It's great stuff.  Hope he's going to be ok!

Michelle  I saw something very similar to this on a tv show. Since your baby's bottom has raw places on it, that is the perfect place for an infection to begin, expecially considering what naturally comes into contact with this area. You have to consider Staff infection. With our babies, it is better to be aggressive in the beginning. I would take my  baby to the Dr. ASAP and ask him specifically about Staff infection.  Good Luck cindyb.

little boys can get yeast infections as well as girls.  The doctor always told me to let him lay on a towel with no diaper on for a few hours a day so it will dry out and he would usually prescribe an anti yeast topical medicine.  That always did the trick for me.  Hope it all works out for you.

My son got frequent diaper rashes as a baby and is two years old now. None of the creams like Desitin worked. It got to the point I could tell if it was a regular rash or a yeast infection. If it was a regular rash I would just use plain old Vaseline on his bottom. If it was a yeast infection and I couldn't get in to see the doctor right away I would let him run around without a diaper during the day and put a little Monistat cream on his bottom at bed time.

I hope the rash is gone, but if not you should try Caldascene.  Just put a bit in the diaper and a bit on their butts.  It works amazing for diaper rash, heat rashes, chafing, etc.. I used it on my kids, my husband uses it to prevent chafing as he is a sports addict.  You can buy it at drugstores.  Pink  bottle.

Hey there....

I have 4 boys and have used so many creams and lotions & potions.....what worked best for my boys is auqafour.  It's almost is like putting a protective barrier on the baby's bottom and helps so much.  Aveeno works so wonderful as well!  Make sure you take him to the doctor if it doesn't clear up as it could be a yeast infection.  My last son seemed to get those more than my other boys.  Good Luck~
