I'm a 50 year old male from Buffalo, NY. I got into nursing in 1995 due to my intrest in medical and due tothe plant I was working at was closing. I started off coming right out of nursing school, into a hospital. Which in NY is rather unheard. I worked there approx. 1 year, but due to censes falling the hospital closed the floor. It was tough as I was low on the pole, so it was up to me to either take only a 2 day job, or to leave altogether and start over somewhere else.

I did end up with a job in a local nursing home, and was there ten years. However I was basically forced out due to I totally disagreed with the way these elderly people were being cared for, and I tried to fight them. But there is some truth to the saying, "For every door that closes, another one opens". As I didn't let the problem of no job stop or discourage me. It only took about 3 months, and I landed a job with the State of New York.

What I love about my life is the fact that each day I have an impact on peoples lives. No matter how bad the day can be, I still find fulfillment when I leave work. Also that is very hard to say when you work in a prison hospital.
