I am new to The Doctors and LOVE IT. I have been on vacation these last 2 weeks and began watching it. I will be taping it Tuesday when i go back to work. My question is, have they ever done an episode on depression? I was diagnoised with depression on July 11,2000 (I remember this date as it is my sister who was killed at 15, birthday). For the most part my depression is under control with medication. However, sometimes it goes off the charts (I am just getting back to normal after one such episode). I was wondering what The Doctors recommend as far as medications, etc. My family is fairly supportive, but I wish they understood what it was like to battle depression. I try to tell them I do not choose to feel the way or feel or think the way I think and I would love nothing more than to be "normal" I can't remember the last time I could say I was "happy" but I know it's been years.

No, they haven't done a show on any mental illness, but might have mentioned a blurb about something like depression or anxiety (ie, 'it can lead to depression' or 'anxiety is real' are things they might say). Idk why there weren't any mental illness shows with Dr. Walsh on as their psychology person, but it never happened). I didn't watch every show, but if they had mentioned it I would have seen it on the messageboards about the show specifically talking about depression, or any other mental illness.
Melissa.
check out the DR. OZ show website. He has done several relating to anxiety and depression including a show with
Dr, Andrew Weil who is a well known author and speaker. He suffered from and delt with depression himself.
happy new Year.... regarding anxiety and depression .......
try googling "Dr. Andrew Weil depression" He is well known author and
speaker that hat delt with anxiety and depression personally. I believe
he has some helpful ways to work through and manage it.
Best wishes
I too suffer from depression and Bipoler. And I haven't heard of any shows dealing with depression. But it is a very hard subject to bring up but it can be very mind and body altering. And also it all depends on the person as far as the medicine's that they put you on. Every body is different so the medicines are going to be different. It is all trial and error. They just have to keep trying untill they hit the right one for you.....It would be very interesting to see a show on this subject....
patty you are right ... each person is different and can be mind and body althering, when you take into consideration meds and symptioms of what mental illness that is being talked about. ie, schizophrenia vs bipolar vs depression. Also, many times the person also has more than 1 mental illness, like anxiety also. So each person is different, you are right.

Thank you all!! :) I would like to see something on the DR's about depression. Get it out there so people know we do not choose to be this way. I think more people need to understand mental illness and not make us feel like we aer "crazy" WE AREN"T. I always tell me family & friends I wish they could feel like I feel for just one day and then they might be able to understand just a little bit what it's like. Sometimes its like i'm outside my body watching this other person.... :(
myfamilymylife, I do understand what you are talking about, it feels like some times that you aren't you and you are looking at a complete stranger. But when you get stablized you will finaly say there I am now let's try to keep me here..And i do understand about the family too, they don't understand unless they walk in your shoes for a little bit. I wish my family could feel how I feel just one time.....
Melissa, thank you so much for understanding what i was saying, I was a little bit unsure about how to wright that...But apparently it was ok.... Thank you again......
