My Family Heritage

created on: 06/25/09

I am proud of my Heritage this photo is of my Great Grandmother on my Dad's side many of my family members say I took after her. She is half Cherokee and her Mother was full Cherokee and her life ended at a very young age of 34 three years after my Grandfather was born to her. My Heritage is also Scot/Irish both were hard working people and proud people. I read a book about my Cherokee Heritage called "The Trail Of Tears" and how the government mainly Georgia made the Cherokee move there families to Kansas. I felt the pain of their spirits and I also shed tears of how we were bullied off our land which now is called ethic cleansing because we were not christians. I think here are christian people doing this horrible thing to fellow human beings. How can they call themselves christians doing this and today much the same thing is going on ethic cleansing of the LGBT community because we didn't fit there moral standards. I see much fighting between the religions and hatred that is why my religion is based on spirital things as my ancestors did even my Scot/Irish and the Celtic beliefs. I feel my mind will be free to see the good in everyone and everything nature has given us.

Leslie, what a beautiful grandmother you had. My mother's side was also Scotch/Irish. I know how proud and hard working (sometimes rowdy too) they were. I don't know about you but the values they passed on to me have given me the strength to continue through tough times by being just as tough. Judging by your posts you have the same values.

Surprisingly the cabins I mentioned I am trying to sell are located on the portion of the trail of tears that ran trhough Illinois. We 'gotta compare notes on this part of histrory sometime. I bet you could teach me some things.

I hope to be able to go to Ireland after the cabins sell and learn more about my family. Did you ever watch the documentary about "Rednecks" on TV? It talks a lot about the Scotch/Irish and how they ended up in America. Did your family work on the railroad too?

A Beautiful Lady,

I read that book, Trail of Tears,

I used to read every indian or

slave book I could get my hands

on. I liked to read books that  you

could not put down because it was

so captivating. My niece has been

trying to get our family ancestry

together for years, it's a lot of work

and a lot of dead ends. My grandparents

and parents are gone now  but a lot of info

is out there somewhere. Sludge

Yes we all seem to say why didn't I ask my parents or grandparents or even great grandparents about their lives. I seem to remember much of what my ancestors that were around in my time and I did ask but not always remembering or knowing if all they told me was the truth or built up some to make it seem better. I have photo's and letters dating back into the mid 1800. I know my Scot/Irish side went back to a Clan named DeCrawford and went back possibily to Peter the Great. My Cherokee side is a mystery to a degree but I do know it was through the Martin side and very limited to information. I wished I knew more of my Cherokee history because that heritage cam back very strong in me and some how I feel their spirit.
