Getting Started

Just a little bit about my history...

I have been on almost every diet available.  You name it, I've done it.  Slim Fast, Diet Workshop, Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, etc, etc.  My whole life has been a battle against weight.  I've been heavy since 4th grade.  You could call me "Desperately Seeking Satisfaction".  LOL.  I've always told myself, "I will do this by the time I'm _____"  you can fill it in with ages, life stages, etc.

Now that I'm approaching 40, I feel like I've waited long enough.  I DON'T want to be an overweight 40-something battling diabetes and heart disease (family history of both).  I'm currently 35, and feel like these should be my "Sex and the City" years (yes I'm a BIG fan).  Meaning, I want to wear cute, sexy clothes befitting my age.  I'm tired of squeezing into my "mommy wear"  forgoing style for comfort.  I'm hoping this diet will give me an advantage.

OK, started the 17 day diet last week, and lasted for about 2 days.  I call it my "false start".  Still, I lost 4 pounds.  Restarted on Monday, and was happy that I didn't gain over the weekend.  I'm now down 7.  Enjoying the feel of clothes starting to loosen.

One other point I'd like to make...

Hello, my name is "Ladyrushfan" and I'm addicted to food.  YES I said it.  I love food.  Home baked foods, CHOCOLATE, fried and fatty foods, etc.  Anything that isn't deemed "healthy".  I use these foods for comfort.  What is it Dr. Phil says, I "self-medicate with food."  Had a bad day=go to the fridge and grab something.  Tired and overworked=fridge time.  You get the point.  Food never lies, cheats, hurts you.  It is completely like a drug.  There's a rush of anticipation of what you're going to eat.  Then the "OH MY GOSH" feeling when you start eating, tasting, feeling the food.  Followed immediately by the remorse and shame of what you just did.  And, to answer Dr. Phil's famous question "NO IT'S NOT WORKING FOR ME!!!"

I wish there was rehab for food addicts.  You go to a facility where you "come down" off of caffeine and sugar (my two drugs of choice).  Meanwhile, you eat healthy and exercise.  Also, you relearn how to eat.  Best of all, why couldn't this be covered by insurance???  Talk about prevention!!!  You know a multitude of diseases could easily be avoided if there was a way for all of us to reset our minds and bodies.  Kinda reminds me of Biggest Loser, only you would be there for as long as you needed it.  The only problem is, what happens when you get home, you might ask.  Well, I've watched enough of Dr. Phil's intervention shows to know that the home environment needs to be changed as well for an addict.  There would be outpatient follow-up, to help make the home environment more conducive to a healthy lifestyle.  Just wishes and dreams, I guess.

Until then, I'm sticking with my little pink book and the 17 day diet.  It was a rough start at first, as I am relearning how to eat, but this week feels easier.  I finally feel some of the renewed energy which was mentioned in the book (I don't even think I had alot of energy as a kid).  I'm looking forward to see where I am on Saturday.  I'm trying to stay away from the scale, but it is SO EXCITIING to see it drop little by little!!

Time to get started!!  Will keep you posted on my progress!!

A little bit lighter and happier,

Hello Ladyrushfan,

I am in the same boat as you, this can be challenging for someone who is not used to eating the right way. I had a headache for almost a week I believe it is from withdrawing sugar and carbs from my diet, however today I am fine, so far anyway which I am very excited about.

I began the 17 day diet last week and I went off the wagon once or twice, this week I lost 4.5lbs so considering I did fall off of the wagon I was very pleased with these results.

I am finding the different forums are a great tool for keeping me motivated. I am looking forward to the new me as well, I am not happy with wearing the "mommy wear" I want to be able to put anything on and it fit and look great. Good luck on your journey!!

Together we can all get there, cheers and talk soon
