Migraine with a capital "M"

I am a 17 year Migraine sufferer. I tuned in for information on Migraine last week, expecting the show to educate the public about Migraines. In reality, just a few minutes were devoted, with a banner behind the doctors saying: MIND OVER MATTER?   "The Doctors" stated "HUGE PROBLEM”. We are spending a billion dollars a year treating migraine headache." Mentioned... "To answer your question, go to a dark place, lie down, put a cold...

Hi Kim it's me again. One thing you need to do is start a migraine log to try to identify foods and environmental factors that cause a migraine, make it worse, or make it better. My food triggers are fresh tomatoes (cooked or processed tomatoes are okay), bell peppers, potatoes (including sweet potatoes), cheese, and MSG. I have learned that I have a minimum threshold level before they cause a problem. The actual level varies from day to day and I have learned to be sensitive to when I am approaching the danger threshold. Heat can make an existing migraine worse, as does any increase in blood pressure/blood flow to the head. Bright light can also make an existing migraine worse. This is why migrainers are often told to lie down in a dark quiet room with a cold compress on their heads. You need to find out what effects you. Robert.

Claudia, Thank you for the information. I get regular massage now... but will certainly check out the website. I did use accupuncture  a couple of years ago during an unrelated illness with great success. I don't have coverage for it any longer, unfortunately.  I'm always open to alternative therapies and have combined working with a naturopathic doctor with the treatment from the Diamond Headache Clinic. :-)  With gratitude~

Hi Kim. I think you will find if you are looking for depth you will have to dig yourself and if you are looking for fluff...just turn on The Doctors"! I find it offensive that they use the patient base (us) to find relevent topics and the leave us flat when they give misinformation, false information and biased propaganda, in the typical condesending attitude. Have you tried chiropractic and acupuncture? Shiatsu or thai massage? I am a certified massage therapist and healing touch practitioner. In healing touch we have a specific technique that addresses migraines. Sometimes I have to start my treatments 10 feet away from the client. That is how far the "pain spike" can be. I have had amazing results. My ex husband gets migraines. I once used Hari Meridian therapy for him. Twenty minutes later he came downstairs and said "I feel great!" I was so surprised because I had just learned the technique that day! I am going to send that ex your resources. I hope it helps him. I hope I have helped you. http://www.healingtouchinternational.org/
