I had an acute bout of diverticulitis on Sunday and was nearly hospitalized. I was in severe cripling pain. My doc put me on 2 antibiotics( not the first time this has happened). I also suffer from Chrones syndrome and Ulcerative colitis. This diet with no fiber , no veggies and no fruit, I think its impossible. I am so discouraged. I was about day 8 of cycle 2, down 22 lbs. Doc wants my bowel to rest this week then I can reintroduce the fiber. Where do I start back with the diet? back to where I left off? I haven' had much to eat because the taste in my mouth is metallic from the meds. But I did have a small bagel and a potatoe . Still eating as much protein as I can stomach and plenty of water. Yogurt with out fruit is really hard so I don't do much of that. Doc says NO FRUIT< NO VEGTABLES for 1 week.
I really would like to know where do I start when I get back on my feet. And believe me, no more raspberries, I am certain that is what set me off this time.

So sorry to hear that, I too have issues with diverticulitis, it nearly killed me 10 years ago when I had an inflammation and mistook it for the flu, my bowel ruptured. I spent over a week in hospital and had to live with a colostomy for six months. When I get a flare up, my doctor usually prescribes a liquid diet until things get under control, lots of chicken or beef broth, tea, apple juice etc. You can get fat free yogurt without fruit, try a vanilla flavor or Yoplait Source lemon merangue, that is actually delicious. Yogurt will help your poor bowels get better as well. When you are back to normal, I would go back to cycle one and drink as much water as possible and take a stool softener to make sure you dont get constipated. Good luck and let me know how you are doing.
How are you doing? I hope you are thru the worst of your illness. Maybe it would be a good idea to review the eating plan with your doctor so you can minimize the risk. Let us know how you are doing?

If you get a pop-up from The Doctors when you are writing posts & it asks for your story use it to tell them about this. Maybe your condition will be used on the show & it can help anyone else struggling. I've had 3 pop-ups so far from posting on the message boards & blogging.
So sorry to hear about your medical troubles! I agree with the other suggestions, that maybe you should go over this plan with your doctor and let him know what you are trying to accomplish. Definately back off on the berries because of the tiny little seeds they have in them, I'm pretty sure they could cause lots of problems with diverticulitis. My mom also has (or should I say had) restrictions of limiting fiber, veggies and fruit and she has been on this plan for almost two weeks now. When I spoke to her last and asked about her bowels on this plan, she said it has actually improved. I had problems with constipation and had to take stool softeners, but because she deals with the opposite problem, she has found a big improvement - no diarrhea and well formed stools. I also agree with the suggestion that you go back to cycle 1 when you get back on your feet, but still think you should discuss this program with your doctor. Best of luck with all this, and let us all know how you are doing. We're thinking of you!
