Breast Surgery after weight loss from Gastric Bypass

I am being told by several sources that most insurances won't pay for the breast surgery. I am wondering if there is someone out there that has had success in getting their insurances to cover this surgery. I am in need of the surgery not for cosmetic purposes but just to be able to have a pain free life. I suffer from Thorasic Outlet Syndrome which only seems worse since the weight loss and the more hanging skin pulling on my shoulder, neck and back. Any suggestions would be greatful! Thanks

Hi Kaleidoscope, My girlfriend had surgery for reduction. She had a letter from her dr and from chiropractor, specialist, and I am not sure from who else. Her insurance company said she would have to have so much removed but with the letters she had no problem. I will try and get a hold of her later and let you know. But I do know she had many letters sent to the insurance company.

I had gastric bypass in 2001. After that, I had 2 plastic surgeries, the first was a breast reconstruction, the second was a tummy tuck, thigh lift and a redo of the breasts. Even with letters from my doctors about excess skin, rashes, etc, the insurance co wouldn't pay for it. My husband had bypass also, but ended up with 6 hernias. The ins paid for the removal of the panniculus (fat apron), but it was done by a general surgeon, NOT a plastic surgeon, at the time of the hernia repair and was a mess.

The $20,000+++ I paid for mine was worth it!!!!
