Need help with a weight situation

I am extremely over weight.  I am 5'2" and I weigh 259 lbs.  At this height and weight I am as round as I am tall.  Both of my knees are bad and I cannot even walk as my knee caps will slide /roll and try to pop out of the socket.  I was told to swim but I do not have access to a pool (I cannot afford memberships).  What type of exercises can I do that do not require me to be on my feet or on my knees?  I am in a catch 22 situation, I am over weight because my knees have dislocated many times (and I love food) and the knee cap on both knees are not sitting where they should be.  The caps are located just a smidge to the outside of the sockets correct location.  I have been told I cannot have surgery on my knees to pull the socket back to the correct position because of my weight as it would undo anything the surgery does to correct my knee problems.   What type of exercises can I do to help me?  I am desperate for information to help me be healthy and here for my family for many years to come.  I would love to be able to play with my son outside instead of sitting on the side lines.  Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Jadeelizabeth- Hi there. You don't know me but like you I have so many health problems it's sicking. I to have problems with my legs & knees. I'm 5'6 & my starting weight was 380lbs. I have severe osteo arthitis, my left leg is almost bone on bone. Plus in that same leg the arthitis has eatin a hole in my leg. Plus my legs now have blockage in my arteries in both legs near the pelvis area. I have asthma, I've already had 3 stomach hernia's, gall bladder sugery, appendix surgery & a miscarriage. I to need a complete knee replacement to my left knee. But was told the same thing. To dangerous for me due to my weight. The sugerion told me I need to be down to at least 250lbs before they will help me. My point is you can lose weight. Have you tried going to your local Y. They have scolarships there. Thats what I did & I'm only paying eight dallors a month. That gives you access not only to the gym, but to the pool there as well. sometimes the scholarship will be free. Depending on your situation. Thats what I do. Plus I see a weight lose specalist once a week. I get weighed in every week, I get  a vitamin B shot every week, & pills to last the whole week. That gives you your accountablity. It's no meat, no sugar, no dairy, no white flour, no oils or butter. I live on approx 750 to 800 calories per day. You can adjust that to 1,000 per day if you like. It has worked for me. So far in the 3 weeks I've been doing this I've lost almost 15lbs in 3 weeks. I do chew ALOT of sugar free gum. It's a thought for you. At least try the Y for the pool.

Hi Jade, I'm 5'1 and grew up being the fat girl so I can kinda relae to your situation.

I have 2 surgestions for you.

Try pilates, gymball-training, yoga - anything you can do on a mat on your own floor. There are tons of videos online with the moves. They are super effective and depending on wich exercises you choose you won't have to put any pressure on your knees. (Maybe username: FreeYogaVideos on youtube can help you :))

Contact The Doctors, tell them your story and I think that thy will help you and ask you to come on the show and follow your story. They'd probably provide a gym-memberhip for you where you can go swimimng. I don't know but it seems to make sense. Try contacting.
