Your life is so not over Julian!!!!!!  There are a few of us who have this same persisting ringing and I was told the same thing you were, "there's nothing we can do about it".  Don't you DARE give up.  So what's a little ear ringing amongst friends huh?!

Julian you are doing the right thing by going to the Dr. They will figure this out for you.There are a lot of things that maybe causing this. Please et us know what you find out. I am sure this is something that will be very easy to take care of.

I had a fabulous Physician years ago, know for his diagnosis abilities.  He told me the ringing in the ears just prior to a womans period is caused from low vitamin B6.  He also said this was the reason for headaches associated with her period.  He suggested loading up on B6 the week prior to the first day of your period.
