Cranberries and blueberries WORK at fighting off a Urinary Tract Infection!

It's day 2 of my battle with bacteria, and I'm winning!  Yesterday I bombarded my system with cranberries and blueberries, both proven to prevent UTIs.  I also drank 12 cups of liquid by the end of the day.  My symptoms got worse, and I knew it had to be because of the old adage, "It gets worse before it gets better."  My pee burned so bad yesterday!  It was about a 7 out of 10, regarding the burning pain.  This morning upon waking after 8 hours of healing sleep, a zero!  But...not too soon...I had to put in my new Nuvaring (just ended my period and have to insert a new one into the vagina for 3 weeks).  A slight burn came back when urinating, about a 3 out of 10...so I'm not out of the woods just yet.  I must remain vigilant.

Here's what I had so far this morning:

My UTI Be-gone morning smoothie:

Blend 1/2 cup blueberries, 1/2 cup pure 100% cranberry juice, stevia, 1 cup almond milk, whey protein powder, 1/2 banana...enjoy!

My UTI Be-gone refreshing drink:

Stir 1/4 cup pure 100% cranberry juice, 1 cup coconut water...sip leisurely.

My UTI Be-gone mid-morning snack:

1/3 cup dried sweetened cranberries, 1/4 cup chopped or halved walnuts...give it a quick mix with your hand, sit back and munch!

One caveat about the above:  It's also working for me because I don't consume refined sugar or refined carbohydrates--a breeding ground for bacteria!

I think the reason I got the UTI was because during my period I realized I wasn't getting enough carbs (cranky and weak), so I grabbed some gluten free bread at the store (I usually don't eat bread or cereal anymore, only brown rice and occasionally quinoa).  I ate the gf bread slathered with reduced-sugar jam for 3 days, then voila, the UTI appeared.  So no more bread and jam, which has added yeast and sugar--not good!  Next period, I'm grabbing the sweet potatoes and brown rice!

So...if you want to fight off a UTI, cut out sugar and refined carbs, if only till you get better...but reducing it year-round will definitely help stave off future infections.

Thanks for all the info!  I'm definitely going to keep it in mind!

You're welcome!

My UTI is COMPLETELY gone as of today!  There was still some mild burning over the weekend here and there, not all the time when I went to pee...so that makes it 3 days of feeling symptoms, and now it's gone.  Now I'm going to make 100% cranberry juice and dried cranberries part of my everyday diet to prevent this from happening again...I already eat blueberries everyday, so that's covered.
