I found out yesterday that I have a B12 deficiency. I thought it was a thyroid disorder before I went to the doctor, but it turns out that it's completely fine. So, for my B12 deficiency, I have to take medication and injections, from what i heard of others, they must do this for life. Sounds irritating, right? I will be seeing the doctor this friday to learn more, and how to do injections. But I'm soo curious to learn more now, and not later, and especially get some pov's from other people going through the same.
Is hair loss also a symptom? From articles I have read, none seem to list hair loss as one, and I seem to be losing a lot of my hair.

I also have a B12 deficiency. Yes, it is for life. For me, I cant take B12 vitamins because my body can't absorb them; only the shots will work. I don't need to sef-administer them; I have to go to the DRs office once a month for one. The B12 deficiency alone (I dont think) causes hair loss (I could be wrong though). You could be losing hair for many reasons.

it is not for life unless you hardly eat anything if you eat healthy balance diet then you are ok
Swiss cheese
eggs
chuck steak
Crab and Lobster
Mackerel
Octopus
For me at least, B12 shots are for life because I lack the intrinsic factor, which is in your stomach and is directly involved in B12 sysnthesis. Yes, if you eat enough B12 in foods you can be "ok," but not all people absorb B12 ... and those who don't absorb it can eat a truck load of foods high in B12 and still require life long shots. So I guess the person posting could could go either way. Depends if they are able to absorb it from foods or not.

Thanks for the info, I went today to learn how to do my injections, etc.
She told me it could cause some hair loss. I guess it doesnt happen with everyone. Also, turns out I just need shots, not pills, and they are definitely for life, since I too cannot absorb b12 through food. My b12 level was zero! Am pretty glad that I'll start feeling better now. :-)
Hair loss can also be cause by lack of biotin, so make sure you get enough through diet or a B-complex supplement, which is what I do since I don't eat eggs. Eggs are bar-none, the best source for biotin.
Not 100% sure, but maybe even a lack of iron can cause hair loss, so always keep up with your yearly physical/blood test to make sure you're not deficient.
Lastly, STRESS can cause temporary hair loss.
Actually, this is the last thing! You may not have hair loss...we lose up to 100 strands a day! Try to keep track of the amount in your brush/comb so you notice in the future what is normal and what is not.
Good luck with the B12 shots!
I second the biotin. It seems to work for me. I don't seem to lose as much hair. And for some odd reason it seems to work better in a "lower" dose (1000 mcg) than it does at 5000 mcg. Check with your DR though if you decide to start this.
