Butt-ne

Hi Everyone!

My loyal staff told me I haven't shared in a while, but my posts are still popular. I do miss hearing what you have to say about what I have to say, so, here goes!  We did a show about acne of the buttocks and the term Butt-ne was introduced.

Over the years, I have encountered many patients with this problem. Sometimes they had just accepted the outbreaks as a fact about themselves and were actually consulting me about something else when I’d say, "Hey, what about this acne problem on your butt?" And they'd say, with surprise, "You mean, there is something I can do about that?!"

Yes there is. Acne on the buttocks can be improved or eliminated with proper care and prevention. What causes an outbreak? Well, you can't change your genes but you can change your jeans! Tight pants and nylon fabrics that hold in heat and moisture just make a bad problem worse. Cotton or wicking fabrics rule in Butt-ne prevention.

Another thing is to avoid folliculitis, which is an infection of the hair follicle, commonly known as ingrown hairs. Laser hair removal is a wonderful recent advancement in preventing ingrown hairs on the buttocks and it’s often painless. And, why stop there? Do your whole back!

Medical therapy focuses on using mild antimicrobial soaps and gentle exfoliating products that remove dead skin and enhance skin turnover without blocking pores. Topical washes that contain benzoyl peroxide are also heavily relied upon.

Patients who get the best results are the ones who use all three techniques: Keep it dry, keep it clean and keep it smooth (hairless). That way you will keep your butt out of trouble, like Butt-ne!

Thanks for reading and let's hear what you have to say! Check out how we covered butt-ne on the show.

GREAT topic to write about since many might be too shy to ask or, as you say, not ask feeling nothing can be done.

Off topic yet Dr. Jim said that he gave you my question for when y'all were on twitter.  I asked you for a head to toe/inside & out medical, visual & dental Ultimate Makeover, please, so I can feel in tip top shape.  I sure hope and pray that you say "YES!"

Dr. O. thanks for all y'all do.  Love THE DOCTORS as much as my fave all time show before y'all's "TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL" because y'all truly are angels touching the lives of many to make better.  I exercise during THE DOCTORS doing my Tour de' THE DOCTORS on my recumbent bike with a side of hand weights.  I did Tour de' Dr. Phil Show today too since had gained couple of pounds.

THE GIFT OF Y'ALL

Not only is today a gift since the present

Y'all at THE DOCTORS are a gift

I have dealt with acne on my butt for over 12 years! It started when I was in 3rd grade and hasnt stopped. I am now 21 years old. I have always wondered if there were other people with my problem. I figured there were but I also assumed that it was nothing more than acne that would eventually go away with time. I was too embarassed to go see a doctor about it until it was addressed on the show. I never understood why I had acne on my butt because i have a very clear complexion and have never had a problem with acne anywhere on my body accept on my butt and pubic area. I was scared it was an STD but my gynocologist never seemed to be alarmed by my skin's appearance and I was tested negative for all STDs. I now know it could be something more serious that needs a different approach other than simple acne treatments. I am now making an appointment with my doctor about it asap. Thank you so much Drs! (I will let you know how my progress goes)
