Lip Implants

Hi everyone,

We have done lips on the show before, but we broke new ground by doing a procedure with the new Perma Facial implants by SurgiSil. Lip augmentation is one of the most common plastic surgery procedures. Let's face it: fuller, healthier, younger lips have been in style since Marilyn Monroe and are not going out of style anytime soon. We do the procedure on men and women alike, but the temporary results of injections aren't the answer for everyone.

Enter the lip implant. They aren't new, but they are recently improved. In the '80's they were made out of gore-tex material. However, they shrunk and became less elastic and more firm as the years wore on.created on: 02/19/09

SurgiSil's PermaLip implants are made out of silastic, like chin and cheek bone implants, which are much more problem-free.This recent improvement will mean that the operation will become much more popular in the near future.

Dr. Ordon I just want to tell you that I'm your #1 fan, loved what you did today on the show....

I can't believe how great her lips looked after Dr. Ordon performed surgery. WOW am I ever impressed-these lips won't be the usual you see around-way to un-natral..too big...to fake looking. Her new lips are what I would love to have-but who would want to trust anyone but the greatest plastic surgeon, Dr. Ordon. Seriously, when do you sleep? Love the show!

Wow - her lips are amazing!  I have thought about lip injections but was never impressed enough to try it.  This, however - if I send a picture, can you 'photoshop' what my lips would look like?  Similiar to the breast implants show where you showed the different cup sizes before her surgery?  Plus, I feel my nose has a round end on it and would like to know what it would look like a little slimmer...I am 40 years old and have always dreamt about plastic surgery since I was at least 16!  Breasts first, then the nose.  But, I have always accepted I am beautiful on the inside and that will match the outside - but now that I am where I am, I would like to go ahead with getting some work done.  I am from Manitoba, Canada - can you recommend surgeons in my area and would they be as skilled in new proecdures as you are?  Thanks Do Orton - you are my new 'O'!

Dr. Orman,

I watched the show where you did a lip implant. I have a problem with my top lip, when I smile it disappears, my teeth are crooked and I wished my top lip could cover some of the top teeth, so I try not to smile much. Besides the lips I have huge chubby cheeks, I've had them all my life and hate them. I feel as if I had a top lip I will smile more, not shy away from cameras and feel more confident in myself.  All of my vacation photos only show my husband as I delete or throw away the pictures of me.  Before I got sick we used to travel a lot, when I go through our pictures it looks like I was never there!

I'm now 46 and on disability, my husband is self employeed and I was wondering about how much money  I need to save to get a lip implant? I don't want real puffy lips, just something where my lip doesn't disappear when I smile. It would be great to be able to smile and not be so self conscience about it.

You are a real kick on the show, I record it so I can watch it with my husband, he always comments on how funny you are.  It looks like you really enjoy doing the show and we really enjoy watching it.  Keep up the good work!

created on: 02/23/09Dear Dr. Ordon:

I think you do fantastic work. If I had a choice (and the money) I would have you do a complete body make over for me.  With reference to the lips however; I am disappointed that the implant seemed to take away the natural points and the curve under the nose. From the time I was 7 or 8 my mother would have me sit and put my index finger in the curve of my top lip and use my middle finger and thumb to press the points toward my index finger in order to make this part of my lip more pronounced.  It seems to have worked, but of course as I have aged my top lip has become smaller and like most women I would love to have it a little larger.  Thank you for explaining the different procedures women go through to look better.  You don't try to make it seem easy in order to entice more women to have it done and I for one appreciate that.

Your loyal fan,

I've had this done about 18 months ago and I absolutely love the results.  My lips are now full and soft and the best thing is that even over time, they have remained that way.  The implants come in different sizes according to the width of your smile and how full you want your lips.  With my doctor's help I chose size 4 and I love, love, love the results.  It changed my looks totally.  Everyone comments on my beautiful smile.  Cost was $3000 for both lips.

Hi All!

I recently had the Surgisil Permalip implants placed and have a question for those of you who have them or a doctor.  Once the implants are placed, how do you keep them from migrating? I read that you are suppose to massage the lips after a week to keep the 'pocket' that they are placed in open, but if you do this it seems that the implants will move around in the lip. Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated! Thank

joanieaz

I had the Surgisil lip implants done last Friday, March 19, 2010. As of now I can feel them and my lips feel hard.  How long will it take for my lips to return to being soft and kissable? my lips are still slightly swollen, especially on the bottom.

Jayce101

Hey Joanieaz...

I had Surgisil lip implants done in December of 2009, and upsized on the 26th of this month. No worries; once all the swelling is gone you will notice your lips go back to their soft, pliable form. Once your lips have fully healed, they look and feel very natural; your significant other won't even be able to feel them while kissing. Hang in there and wait out the whole healing...it's worth it! You will never be happier.... :)

joanieaz

Hey Jayce101! Thanks.  I'm now 10 days out and one side of my upper lip on the right is still swollen.  One side of my bottom lip on the right is also swollen which makes it sort of droop.  Did this happen to you? If so, when will all of the swelling go down? I had the larger implants put in as I like the fullness. If this works out well, and my lips return to being soft, it will sure beat getting Juvederm injections!

Jayce101

Hey Joanieaz....

I think I was swollen for a good couple weeks the first time, and the bruising lasted a little bit longer. I too was swollen more on one side than the other. This time, same thing, but different side. So don't worry; the sag will go away as the swelling goes down. This time my swelling is already starting to mellow out, and I feel it is possibly b/c I have used Sinecchi (a homeopathic Arnica capsule) since the procedure. I've also been taking Advil occasionally; preference on this varies due to the fact that 1: it is a blood-thinner so can make bruising worse, but 2: it is an anti-inflammatory, so can help with the swelling. I'd rather have bruising to deal with. ;)

Not much longer and your lips will be full, soft and beautiful! :)

joanieaz

Hey Jayce101! Thanks sooo much! My doctor had me take a prednisone dosepak starting the day after surgery for the swelling as well. I do have Arnica gel, and they did mention taking Arnica orally.  I wonder if it would do any good to start it today? My bruising is all gone.  What is weird is that on the sides where it's swollen I can't feel the implants.  It's real soft.  You have encouraged me, as I would not want my lips to feel hard like this forever.  The implants really look beautiful though.

Jayce101

Joanieaz, definitely doesn't sound like you have any reason to fret...it sounds like things are coming along nicely! :) I'm envious that you aren't experiencing any bruising any longer...I bruise easily, so my lips will continue to be purple for a while longer (looks like I'll be sporting dark red lipstick as a cover-up for Easter celebrations!).

As for the Arnica, it's holistic so I wouldn't imagine any issues with starting it now, but I would recommend asking your surgeon before taking anything.

Also, I don't think I touched on it before, but you mentioned that you had gotten filler before, and you hoped the implant choice would result in a better experience. I too had gotten filler before I ever got implants, and whereas I loved the fullness, I wasn't in love with the lumpiness I could feel. With the SurgiSil implants, there are no lumps; just nice, smooth fullness. You will love it!! :)

joanieaz

Jayce101, I was very, very bruised for a while. I also bruise easily.  I also bled from the incisions on my lips, and it went down to my chin, so that was bruised and swollen as well.  I looked kind of jowly.  It's scary at first, but I expected it.  At the same time I had Fractional Laser done on my face, so I had tht to deal with as well. But it's all worth it!!

Jayce101

Oh wow! Fractional too?? You are one tough cookie! :)

The things we do for beauty! ;)

joanieaz

Hi Jayce101. It's been 15 days now and my upper lip is still swollen.  The bottom lip seems to be going down. I had Juvederm injected in November, 2009.  I'm wondering if there is still some of that in there, because Juvederm typically lasts about 8 months. How are your lips coming along?

Jayce101

Hey Joanieaz!

I'm at day 9 and I'm still swollen a bit as well. Don't worry; the tissues will need time to adjust to the larger size. And yes, if you had filler as recently as November, I'm sure there is still product in your lips. Did they not inject you with Hyaluronidase to dissolve the filler before putting the implants in? I had to have that before my first batch of implants... Perhaps Dr. Ordon or his PA Rob could touch on this, whether it could be making a difference in your results thus far?

joanieaz

If the Dr did it, i was out and didn't know about it.  I am going to see him tomorrow and I'll ask. Yikes! That could mean I will have this for a much longer period of time than I planned.  Are your lips peeling? Mine keep peeling and are dry. I have to keep moistening them.

Jayce101

Hey Joanieaz...

Nope, I doubt he injected it...it's typically done in advance b/c it takes some time for the filler to dissolve. I believe I had it injected a couple of weeks beforehand when I first got the implants.

I am not peeling this time, but the first time...did I ever! I remember my lips shed in one whole piece...I took photos b/c I was so amazed! ;) Try Vitamin E capsules; stick a pin in the end and squeeze out some of the E oil and put that on your lips...works like a charm! Plus, it looks like a super shiny gloss for your newly plumped lips....hot! ;)

joanieaz

Hi Jayce101.  I went to my surgeon this morning, and he assured me that my lips will soften as scar tissue forms around the implants, so a few more weeks.  Actually, my lips are still very tender if I press on them too hard.  My Dr. said to sort of massage them a bit.  So, all in all, I'm very happy and I think it will all be fine.  Do you have the first implants in the pic you are showing? Your lips look really good!

Jayce101

Hey Joanieaz....

Yes, I had the first set of implants in the picture, but I think that picture was taken after I also had a bit of filler put in along the vermillion border. Now with the second set I will get the fullness without having to do the filler as well. :)

I hope you will post a photo once you are finished healing...I would love to see! :)

joanieaz

Hey Jayce101,

I will be happy to post a pic once i am healed completely. Actually none of my friends have noticed anything. It's just me that keeps staring at my lips because you know the implants are there. Can a pic be added by clicking on any of the icons in the "add comments" section?

Dr. Ordon or Anyone who has had Permalip done:  I am freaking out. I had my Permalip in 5 days ago and look like a trout. I had small lips and had the 5mm put in. I also think my top implant might be placed to high. Do you recall if yours look the same. I am so upset. Im obsessively icing and taking all my beds. I am brusied pretty bad on the underside of my lip but cant seem to locate pictures and different stages to determine if Im overreacting. Any help please!!

sweetgirlmf

I just scheduled a consultation for the permalip implants. I am really worried about how my lips will look after the surgery and how long I will have to stay couped up in the house. What does your face/lips look like during the 2 weeks after surgery? Can you see the stitches? Is the bruising, swelling, and stitches extremely noticable to other people? Thanks!

BobSmiley

Any surgery has risks and gee in my opinion, unless it is necessary treatment I would simply avoid!
