The size of the ring finger.

Once again the doctors present " a study " that makes me wonder if they ever check it our before they announce that it means or even may mean this or that.

Here's something that every person who reads this can do and the doctors can do it with the audience tomorrow or whenever if they ever get feedback from these posts: Ask every person your know to hold up their hand(s). Here is what you will notice: The rule ( there are exceptions and i have some of my own theories based on my own "study" ) The majority of men have a longer ring finger than index finger. Women have a longer index finger.

If you ever meet a cross dresser, transvestite, transsexual, drag queen, ask to look at their hands. It will tell you their sex 98% of the time and there's no operation to change that fact.

Now what do you think of the "study"?

I think they explained things so we could all understand.I got what they were saying. What is it you are trying to say?I can tell you why a woman has a longer index finger,so when she shakes it in your face you can see it....

Men are the more agressive human usually, and they are saying most are born with the longer ring finger.Makes sense to me cause they have more testerone.Thats my opinion. Hand

"I think they explained things so we could all understand.I got what they were saying."

Since no one else replied I have no clue what "we all" understood. That it made sense to you means what? What can you do with this information?

To say " A new study...." without saying who did the study, who funded the study, what was the objective of the study, when it was done, and if it has been well received or perhaps off set by another study is more sensational that scientific IMHO.

In fact there has been more studies trying to prove a relationship between the lenght of the ring finger and the degree of success in financial markets than any other study of this type. The study group was all men. Researchers all men. That said, there have also been studies of this type trying to correlate SAT scores and the risk of osteoarthritis to index to ring finger length ratio (referred to as 2D:4D)

One of those studies said this: "Index to ring finger length ratio is a trait known for its differences between the sexes. Men typically have shorter second than fourth digits (2D:4D); in women, these fingers tend to be about equal in length." So when you ask: "What is it you are trying to say?" Maybe the researchers at The University of Nottingham said it in words that you can understand better than mine. However I still stick to my own empirical research that says most women have shorter ring fingers rather than the same size. Maybe British women have the same size 2D:4D. Of course doesn't that beg the question of nationality and race and how those factors may effect the results?

part 2

In one of the earliest studies done at UC Berkeley in 2000 the researchers were looking to find correlation between the 2D:4D ratio, prenatal androgen levels and homosexuality. The head researchers name was "Breedlove" ; how ironic.

Commenting on the study:

To some researchers, the idea that gay men are "hypermasculinised" seems counterintuitive. John Manning of the University of Liverpool has found the opposite in gay men: that their finger ratios veer more towards the feminine. He suspects that both very low and very high levels of testosterone in the womb could produce homosexuality. "There may be more than one phenotype of male gays," he says.

Manning also wonders if Breedlove's data may have been slightly muddied because the research did not take account of ethnicity. He has found big population variations in 2D:4D ratios. "The geographical differences swamp the sex differences," says Manning. "There's more difference between a Pole and a Finn than between a man and a woman."

Brad, WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TLKING ABOUT?  I cannot understand the point of anything you've written so far.It almost seems like you are looking for someone to contradict you.  Please explain what all of your research means.  Does it prove you are gay? Does it offend you?  Please clarify.  Thank you Bobbie

awisegirl

I am a woman, and have ALWAYS been a woman, and my index finger is longer than my ring finger.

BradSmith

damsell, What was the point of "the study" that the doctors presented?

My points:  1:There have been many studies of the ring/index finger ratio.

and 2: What i find most interesting is what the doctors didn't say. The ratio is reversed between men and women.

Examples of the type of studies that have been done are meant to illustrate that researchers have agenda's and objectives that are sometimes funded by organizations or groups who have money for the research.

The doctors told us nothing about the study that they presented. And i can't figure out what it was supose to "prove"?

BradSmith

awisegirl "I am a woman, and have ALWAYS been a woman, and my index finger is longer than my ring finger."

Exactly! That's what i've been saying and what the studies i posted yesterday say.

"Men typically have shorter second than fourth digits (2D:4D); in women, these fingers tend to be about equal in length."

" However I still stick to my own empirical research that says most women have shorter ring fingers rather than the same size."  <----this is in essence what you are attesting to awisegirl. TY for supporting my point.

Brad,  I have a question.  My ring fingers are longer than my pointers.  I am never going to play the piano, so who cares what the length of my fingers is?  Or are you suggesting that since my ring fingers are longer, that makes me a lesbian?  My husband and two kids might give you an argument on that one, but I am not sure.  Why can't you just write a statement without going in circles?  bobbie

If a man speaks in the forest and there is no woman there to hear it, is he still wrong?

damsell

If a man is a fool and he keeps his mouth shut so it is never confirmed, is the man still a fool?  Perhaps you could research that Brad.  Get back to us in a few weeks.

Well Brad as usual sterotyping people. I have one hand my ring finger is longer the other its my index that is longer. It amazes me all these stupid studies on things as this but almost nothing on people that are Intersex or Transsexual. Maybe you should find out why this subject is so taboo instead of help these people.
