About Me
Hello. My name is Betty Carlton. I live in Austin Texas.
I had scoliosis as a teen, I had a couple of spinal fusions. These enabled me to look normal and feel great throughout the majority of my life.
In 1989, my husband and I got in a car accident, where my lower seatbelt held taught, and the upper chest seatbelt did not. My fusion was sheared, crushing a single vertibrea near my lower waist. Since then, I've had an additional 12 spinal surgeries (I am counting the surgeries that were over 18 hours each) to reconstruct my spine.
Since that car accident in 1989, with each of the 12 surgeries, one thing went wong with each surgery.
I have gone to a dozen orthopedic surgeons since the year 2000 searching for a finite solution. I found a doctor in California where I had 6 of the 12 surgeries. I now have severe arachnoiditis, and now my spine is significantly twisted. I walk with my back-end sticking out, (flat back syndrome) and leaning noticably to the right. I also am in severe pain and have struggled to get off my heavy pain medications. Now, I take only 4 to 10 hydrocodone daily, and a lot of herbs to reduce the pain. I usually have 5 good hours/day. I love exercising, and I cannot.
I want to be normal for the later part of my life.
My question is this:
Where can I find a surgeon who can reconstruct my spine so it looks more normal, and, most importantly reduce the scar tissue which has caused the severe arachnoiditis that is inside my spinal canal.
I have told several neurologists and orthopedic surgeons my idea of how to eliminate the arachnoiditis. The reformation of my spine to be shaped more normally would/should be fairly routine. The doctors all react as if I am a walking miracle, but they do not want to risk touching me. I am not addicted to surgery, I just strongly feel that there are solutions to every problem.
Where would you suggest that I could I locate a great neurologist or orthopedic surgeon please? Should I even try?
Thank you for your valuable time and highly respected opinions.
Best regards, Betty E Carlton
